Teams Preview

Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers have had a mix start to their 2024-25 season so far as they won three and lost three of their six pre-season fixtures. After bolstering their squad with the additions of Paul George, Andre Drummond and Caleb Martin to name a few the 76ers are primed to challenge the Boston Celtics for the Eastern Conference crown but will still need to prove their metal as they begin their season against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks.

Despite their new additions and re-signing of franchise stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey the 76ers have had a slow start and their wins in pre-season have been against sides like the Atalanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets and the New Zealand Breakers all of whom are opponents that are inferior to them on paper.

Despite their wins the Sixers fan base will be expecting more from their team especially when considering that they haven’t fared well against opponents with similar title expectations. During their matchups against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Boston Celtics in pre-season, the Philadelphia based team performed extremely poorly, losing by a scoreline of 121-111 and 139-89 respectively displaying the disparity between them and genuine title challengers.

While they have started poorly one has to consider that their team doesn’t have all their players fit and ready so far. In their final pre-season game, which they lost to the Orlando Magic both Joel Embiid and Paul George didn’t even make the bench and will sit out the season opener as well meaning it might be a while before we see the 76ers actually vying against bigger opponents with ease.

Despite lacking their star men, the Sixers are still a force to be reckoned with and with Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre Jr. starting the season strong it won’t be long before they make a statement in the NBA.

Milwaukee Bucks

Unlike the Philadelphia 76ers the Milwaukee Bucks have had a poor start to the season under Doc Rivers and assistant coach Darvin Ham Sr so far as they only won one of their 4 pre-season games. Their only win was against the Chicago Bulls on October 15th and it wasn’t the most convincing win to say the least. Winning by 4 points and a scoreline of 111-107 the win isn’t much of solace to the Bucks fans as their losses were heavy and against genuine title challengers.

With their last game being a blowout loss to last year’s runners up the Dallas Mavericks where they only managed to score 84 points, Giannis and co. will be looking to make a quick turn around come October 24th as the 2024-25 season might be the final season this aging Bucks team has to win the NBA title.

New additions Taurean Prince, Gary Trent Jr. and Delon Wright are all good squad players but given that they have lost Malik Beasley and Patrick Beverly too it will be interesting to see how the Bucks will cope during moments of high pressure and intensity during the season.

Damian Lillard and Giannis will be the two star players for the Bucks but it is Kris Middleton, Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis Jr. that need to step up for the Milwaukee team given that they weren’t of much help last season. The latter though has started his season strongly and even had double digit scores in his first two appearances of the season.

While it hasn’t been going well for the Bucks so far, they do have a lot of positives and will enter the season as favourites for many people. With their entire starting 5 being rested during their last pre-season game it is safe to say that Doc Rivers wants to start the season strong and it will be a tough matchup for both sides as they vie for the NBA crown.

Giannis Antetokounmpo 30.4 11.5 6.5 1.1/1.2

While the Philly crowd will always be in full voice in the Wells Fargo Arena the absence of Joel Embiid and Paul George will be of huge loss to them. On the other hand, the Bucks have rested their main players for the opening fixture and should be fresh and primed for this fixture. While the Philadelphia 76ers will put up a fight, the absence of senior players could be the deciding factor in the Milwaukee Bucks taking the dub.
