The reigning champions started the 2024-25 season as they mean to go on with many experts predicting that the Massachusetts side will go on to win back-to-back titles this season and their performances so far do portray that they are in a good position to do so. 

Despite sitting second in the Eastern Conference with the high-flying Cleveland Cavaliers being the only team sitting above them, the Boston Celtics have already cemented themselves as being above the rest in their conference as no side apart from the Cavaliers has won as many games in the division so far and if not for the team from Ohio the Celtics would have had the best record in the NBA at the time of writing.

Having started the season with four victories in a row the Celtics then lost their first game of the season against the Indiana Pacers in overtime before three wins in a row against the Atlanta Hawks and the Charlotte Hornets put them back on track to achieve their two-peat goals and left them with a 7-1 record in eight games.

This run however came to an end against the Golden State Warriors in a close encounter at the TD Gardens but the Celtics side showed their metal once again in the next two games as they beat the Nets in a close overtime encounter before blowing the Bucks away at home with a 113-107 victory. 

Despite this 2-win streak, the Celtics were handed another defeat in their next fixture against the Atlanta Hawks and while this was a huge let down the Boston side have since won back-to-back games and will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in their next game and could end the Ohio side’s 14-game unbeaten streak on Tuesday.

While the Celtics have been a force to be reckoned with the team from Ohio is currently the alpha in the Eastern Conference as they are currently on a 14-game unbeaten streak and have been the team to beat in the league so far as they sit comfortably on top of the Eastern Conference with 3 a game lead over the Boston Celtics at the time of writing. Having started their season at the home of the Toronto Raptors the Cavaliers blew the team from the North by a score of 136-106 before returning home to the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse and defeating the Detroit Pistons by a score of 113-101.

This run then continued on the road against the Washington Wizards before a visit to the Madison Square Garden left them with a 4-0 record and equal with the Boston Celtics at that point. It was during their fifth game against the Los Angeles Lakers that they finally pulled away from the reigning champions as the Celtics lost to the Golden State Warriors the Cavaliers made easy work of the Lakers and beat them by a score of 134-110.

They then followed this up by beating the Orlando Magic before beating the Bucks both at home and away equalling their franchise’s record of 8 unbeaten games to start a season in the process. This group then showed that this team is something different as in a historic feat against the New Orleans Pelicans the young Cavaliers side won their ninth game in a row becoming the first Cleveland side to win 9-games in a row to start the season. 

While many expected them to lose to the Warriors in their 10th game the Cleveland side stayed resilient and beat their former nemesis by a score of 136-117 before another two wins against the Brooklyn Nets and the Chicago Bulls took their record to 12-0. The Cavaliers then faced the Bulls once again and beat them by a score of 144-126 but before this drubbing of the Illinois-based team the Cavs also faced a Philly side but brushed past them with ease with a 12-point victory.

With the Eastern Conference not being as competitive as the Western Conference in terms of the top spots the Boston Celtics will be doing the entire conference a huge favor if the can beat the Cleveland Cavaliers at home during their first meeting of the 2024-25 season. While both teams have been great the Cleveland side has been exceptional as they are the only unbeaten side in their entire league at this point and with Boston hoping to lead the East by the end of the season this would be a great place to start.
