After a disappointing pre-season where they only managed one win in five games the Brooklyn Nets have continued this dismal form into the new season as they have lost both their opening fixtures on the road and head to the Barclays Center empty handed as they look to bring in their first points of the season against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday. 

Losing their first game of the season to the Atlanta Hawks by four points at the State Farm Arena the Nets were hoping to have a quick turnaround in Florida against the Orlando Magic but any hopes of salvation were dashed on Friday night as they were beaten by a score of 116-101 at the Kia Center by a Magic side that are still unbeaten in the regular season. 

Now branding a 0-2 record the Nets will be hoping to do better against the Milwaukee Bucks as they need a win to get their fanbase up and running again especially after the multiple losses they have endured both on and off the court.

Having lost their Starman Mikal Bridges to arch-rivals in the New York Knicks the Nets supporters have already endured enough pain during the off-season and with a terrible start to their season a win against the Bucks will be a compulsion for the franchise as they look to qualify for the playoffs this time around.

While the Nets still have great names on their roster with the likes of Ben Simmons, Dennis Schroder and Cam Thomas it is only the latter that has performed for them so far this season as he dropped 36 and 24 points respectively in two games.

While the Brooklyn Nets have had a horrendous start to their season so far, the Milwaukee Bucks on the other hand have had a balanced start to say the least as they won one and lost the other in their opening two fixtures of the 2024-25 season. 

After a dominant start against the Philadelphia 76ers where they beat an Embiid less side by a scoreline of 124-109 the Bucks then welcomed the Chicago Bulls at home and while many expected them to take the win the Milwaukee side were stunned by a resurgent Bulls side as an inspired Coby White second half display handed the Bucks their first defeat of their season. 

Losing by a score of 133-122 the Bucks will be hoping for a quick turnaround against the Nets in New York on Sunday and will need both stars in Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo to show up if they are to beat a hurt Brooklyn Nets side who will be itching to get their first win of the 2024-25 NBA season.

Giannis who was in the forefront of the Bucks attack against the Bulls managed to score 38 points during his team’s 11 points loss to their eastern conference rivals and while that wasn’t enough to inspire a win the Greek Freak has managed to average 31.5 points so far this season and will be instrumental in his team’s success moving forward.

 Apart from Giannis being the obvious leader in the Bucks squad former Portland legend Damian Lillard is another star that has been consistent in his performances so far this season as the 3-point Demi-God has contributed by scoring 30 and 28 points in his two games while also dishing out 14 assists in as many games.

With both sides having contrasting starts to their season so far it will be interesting to see how both teams approach this matchup given that both sides have fielded the same starting five in their past two fixtures. While the Bucks have taken two different shooting routes in their two matches so far with them only shooting 80 shots in their first game while taking 13 more shots in their second. 

The Nets on the other hand shot a similar figure in both games but had a significant dip in their field goal percentage in their most recent game against the Magic. This disparity in shooting percentage will be the key on Sunday night as the side that converts their shots better will eventually be the winner on the night.

With the Brooklyn Nets playing their first game of the season at the Barclays Center on Sunday night the onus will be on them to get their first win of the season but it will be difficult against a well drilled Milwaukee Bucks side as they look to get back to winning ways against the Brooklyn side.
