In what was a rematch of the 2025 Western Conference 1st round playoff series, Minnesota took on the Lakers Friday night getting trounced 128-110. Luka Doncic torched the Timberwolves for 49 points becoming only the fourth player in NBA history to have back-to-back 40 point games to start the season. 

Anthony Edwards finished with 31 points while Julius Randle had 26 points, on what was a forgettable night for the Wolves who gave up 54 points in the paint. Minnesota also did not have any answers to Doncic who was red hot from the field shooting 60%. As a team the Lakers shot 59.2%, having their way on offensive, leaving Minnesota dumbfounded. 

Minnesota’s big man Rudy Gobert was completely taken out of the game by the Lakers as he scored just 2 points in 28 minutes of action. What was mind boggling was how Minnesota hardly went to Gobert down the post, resulting in him taking only 2 shots during the course of the game. 

It is a cardinal sin not to utilize the services of one of the most dominant Centers the game has ever seen. Post play is such an integral part of offense and the Wolves would benefit by kicking the ball into Gobert to get easy baskets, something they seriously will have to consider moving forward.

Indiana Pacers

Losing on opening night meant that the Indiana Pacers were all geared up to get their first W of the season at FedEx Forum on Saturday night. Memphis, who was coming off an embarrassing performance against the Heat, had other plans. 

The game turned out to be lopsided, as the Grizzlies tore through the Pacers 128-103, restoring faith among the home crowd. Ben Mathurin top scored for Indiana for the second game running having 26 points. None of the other Pacers’ starters had a big night. 

They also did not get much production from their bench except for Obi Toppin who finished with 13 points. The painted area was constantly breached by the Lakers, getting to the hoop with ease, as they ended with 56 points under Indiana’s basket. Memphis also won the rebounding battle while having 31 assists. Indiana was also pressured into committing 13 turnovers.
