Defending Champions Auckland take on Central districts who will be looking to do much better than what they did last time. Both teams will be looking to get their first wins of the season as they face each other.

Defending champions Auckland did not have the best of starts to the campaign as they were beaten in their first game of the season by Otago. Despite being crowned champions last season, Auckland has still not won a game in the last 3 matches. They will be looking o turn things around against Central District. On the other hand, Central District had a better start compared to Auckland. Starting off their campaign with a draw against Canterbury. Both teams would be disappointed not to have won their first games. They will be raring to go against each other and get their first wins of this season. This has all the ingredients for it to be a fascinating game.

Auckland Aces Preview

Auckland is coming into the season as defending champions after a very impressive run in the 2021-22 season. They will be disappointed to have started the season with a loss. They faced a very heavy defeat in their last game and will want to put up a much better display in their next game.

The bowling department put on a really good display, restricting Otago to under 300 on both occasions. William Somerville picked up 3 wickets in the first innings and ended up with 5 wickets in the match. But Sean Solia was the stand-out performer as he picked up 6 wickets in the match, picking up 4 in the second innings. Overall the bowling department was pretty impressive but was let down by the batting department.

The batting department was disappointing in both innings and could not capitalize on the start the bowlers gave. The opening batsmen were lackluster at best and could not provide the team with the start they wanted. George Walker was the only positive when it came to the batting department but found no support. He scored 52 & 42 runs in both innings, respectively.

Key Players: Robert ODonnell, William Somerville, William O Donnell, Simon Keene

Auckland Aces Predicted Playing XI:

Sean Solia, William O Donnell, Cole Briggs, Robert ODonnell (c), George Worker, Ben Horne (wk), Ryan Harrison, William Somerville, Ross ter Braak, Simon Keene, Danru Ferns

Central Districts Preview

Central Districts would find themselves very lucky not to have lost the last game and ended up drawing it. They will be happy with their overall performance, as they did show a lot of fight, but they will want to better their performance in the next game.

They put up a total of 302, with Will Young scoring 52 runs, but the surprise came with bowler Brett Randell who missed out on a well-deserved century by 10 runs, scoring 90 runs. In the second innings, where the batting stumbled, skipper Tom Bruce scored 74 runs.

The bowling department took a hammering, as they conceded 416 runs picking up 9 wickets before Canterbury declared their innings. Doug Bracewell was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 3 wickets and was well supported by Raymond Toole and Ajaz Patel, who picked up 2 wickets each.
