The Adelaide Strikers showed a lot of promise in the last season of the BBL by reaching the finals. They were beaten by the Sydney Sixers in the Challenger and will be hoping to go one step further this time.

Their squad this year has plenty of talented batters, including Travis Head. Head is currently representing the Australian national team playing against the West Indies at home and is likely to be a part of the squad that squares off against the visiting South Africans. He is hence unlikely to be available for the Strikers anytime soon.

Chris Lynn and Colin de Grandhomme will have to take responsibility for the batting unit for the major part of the season. Lynn, who is the highest run-getter of the BBL with 3005 runs in 100 innings at a strike rate of 148.83, has another chance of stamping his authority. Another batter to watch out for is Matt Short, who was the second-highest run-getter for the Strikers, collecting 493 runs at 155.52.

Experienced fast bowler Peter Siddle ended the last season with 30 wickets and his presence will once again make a huge difference. Then they have leg-spinner Rashid Khan who will be a constant threat during the middle overs.

Sydney Sixers Preview

The Sydney Sixers have been in fine form in recent years. They won the 2019-20 and 2020-21 editions and ended up as the runners-up of the last season. The Sixers are easily one of the strongest teams in the competition.

In many ways, the Sixers follow the Chennai Super Kings template, giving more importance to experience than youth. The likes of Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird, Dan Christian, Ben Dwarshuis, Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Hayden Kerr, Steve O'Keefe, and Kurtis Patterson add plenty of experience to the squad. The inclusion of James Vince gives their batting unit more depth. Vince is a T20 veteran, having played 311 games and amassing 8339 runs at an average of 30.65 and a strike rate of 134.32. Another great addition is Kurtis Patterson, who finished last season as the Perth Scorchers’ highest run scorer.

The Sixers already boast one of the strongest spin attacks in the BBL with Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy, and the addition of Afghanistan leggie Izharulhaq Naveed further bolsters the department. Pace bowler Chris Jordan will also bring his valuable experience to the squad and will be their man in the death overs.
