Bet NowTwo teams who have had a different performance graph so far, two teams who have who might slightly different aims while coming into this match. Although both teams would play for a win, it is Perth Scorchers who need it more as another loss would make it difficult for them to challenge for the play-offs.
Luckily, Scorchers have a game in hand when compared to some of the other teams and they would want to capitalize on that advantage. In their last match, the Scorchers were outplayed in all departments as a Lizelle Lee hundred along with a disciplined bowling effort from the Melbourne Stars proved too hot to handle at the W.A.C.A in Perth.
Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers lost grip of the top spot in the points table with a loss against Brisbane Heat in the second of the twin fixtures at Mackay. The two consecutive games at Mackay were in fact totally opposite to each other. After outplaying the Brisbane Heat in Game 1, the hosts came back strongly to upset Adelaide Strikers on Sunday. The Brisbane duo of Beth Mooney and Georgia Prestwidge came up with excellent performances on the night as Sophie Devine’s fifty went in vain. It was one of the rare off-days for the Strikers’ bowling attack as they were unable to contain Mooney at all. This game against Perth Scorchers at home presents a nice opportunity for the Strikers to set the ball rolling once again.
Strong with both bat and ball, Adelaide Strikers are a well-oiled unit who could even lift the WBBL trophy come to the end of this season. That is why their loss against Brisbane Heat in the last match was nothing more than a blip in form. The reason for their success so far has been a bowling attack that gives nothing away.
With variety and quality, the bowling attack that contains the World No.1 bowler Megan Schutt, Tahlia McGrath, Amanda Jade-Wellington, Sophie Devine and Sarah Coyte has restricted opposition teams under a total of 140 on four occasions this season. That is why it is no coincidence that Strikers won all four of those matches.
With the bat, it has been an all-round show again with Sophie Devine standing out with her performances while Bridget Patterson, Tahlia McGrath and Suzie Bates have come up with good supporting acts. Bates wasn’t in great form earlier in the season but she came up with an unbeaten 55-run knock against Brisbane Heat last Saturday. With Lauren Winfield as cover for this batting line-up, Strikers are a team to be feared on most days.

So, what’s gone wrong for the Perth Scorchers in spite of the presence of stars like Meg Lanning, Nat Sciver and Amy Jones? The problem has been that none of the players apart from the above mentioned three stars have fired so far. Thus, one could say that Scorchers are a bit top-heavy with Jones, Lanning, and Sciver occupying the most favorable positions in the batting order. This has meant that Nicole Bolton and Heather Graham haven’t been able to express themselves.
However, batting isn’t the major problem as the Scorchers' bowling attack has tended to leak runs and have in fact been one of the most expensive sides in the WBBL. Only Irish all-rounder Kim Garth has performed well so far with 6 wickets from 5 matches at an economy rate of 6.72. Apart from Garth, no other Scorchers bowler has maintained an economy rate under 7. This could mean that Emma King might replace Taneale Peschel for the game against Adelaide Strikers

The Karen Rolton Oval generally produces good batting surfaces for T20s while also giving enough assistance for spin bowlers. Par scores at this venue have tended to be around 145-155 with the ground also hosting an exciting match between the Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes last year when the hosts had to win the super over even after scoring 189 runs. With respect to the weather, Saturday should offer great conditions for cricket with the day expected to be cloudy without any threat of rain.
A stadium which is named after the former Australian cricketer Karen Rolton, the Karen Rolton Oval is another of those small grounds that is predominantly used for domestic cricket. The South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) only unveiled the main ground in March 2018. This unveiling ceremony was held only after SACA had upgraded the venue with the playing surface getting a makeover while new changerooms were developed with the ground hosting the 2nd ODI between Australia and New Zealand earlier this year. A few of the warm-up matches for the 2020 T20 World Cup will also be played at this venue which has a seating capacity of 5000.
In the two matches that has been held at the Karen Rolton Oval until now, the chasing sides won comfortably on both occasions. With Adelaide Strikers winning three of their matches by chasing down totals and both of Perth Scorchers' wins coming in the same manner, the decision at the toss seems to be a no-brainer. In T20s, it is always preferable to chase down totals unless the pitch is playing tricky. In that regard, the Karen Rolton Oval has some wonderful pitches and the track should remain the same over the 40 overs.
With respect to this match, it is pretty easy to make a decision as the Adelaide Strikers are a more complete unit when compared to the Perth Scorchers. As a result, the Strikers should be favorites to win this match and register their 5th win unless Meg Lanning comes in with a special knock to disturb the hosts' party.
