South Africa to win the only T20I against Australia.

  • Australia have lost 4 of the last 5 T20I they played. It includes 3-0 drubbing by Pakistan in the UAE.
  • While South Africa will play their full-fledged attack, Australia are resting the prime bowling quartet of Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, and Lyon.
  •  Australia do not have a great record at home in T20Is in the recent years. They have lost more match at home than they have won - losing 5 out of the 9 matches in the last three years.

Our prediction is that South Africa will win the only T20I against Australia.

South Africa are set to play one-off T20I against Australia on 17th Nov 2018 as the last match of this ongoing series. Australia take on India for a 2-month long tour starting next week. The match will be played at the Gold Coast Stadium in Queensland. This is the first international match being played at this venue.

After winning the ODI series 2-1 South Africa must be looking forward to continuing the winning streak against the hosts in the T20I as well. South Africa will play a full-strength team whereas Australia are expected to make a lot of change, especially in the bowling department allowing the prime bowlers to prepare for the Test series against India.

AUSTRALIA PREVIEW

Australia seem to have already shifted the attention to India series. They understand that their summer will be judged upon the outcome of the series against India. However, this game gives them the opportunity to test the bench strength where lies some exciting talent such as Andrew Tye, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Adam Zampa.

D'arcy Short is an exciting talent at the top of the order. He must be keen to make amends to the failure in the UAE against Pakistan. Markus Stoinis and Glen Maxwell will play as the all-rounders in the middle order. Wins have eluded Australia off late in almost all the formats. Although the one-off encounter against South Africa doesn't have much context in the bigger picture, some good performances here would give them happy headaches when it comes to selecting the team for the T20I series against India.

SOUTH AFRICA PREVIEW

The tour down under has been a successful one for the South Africans so far. On the back of some fine bowling performances and solid batting display, especially by David Miller throughout the series, they managed to beat the hosts and the defending World Champions Australia by 2-1 in the ODI series.

The second ODI was a bit of a setback after an easy win in the first ODI given the achievable target South Africans failed to chase. They bounced back strongly in the third and final ODI to win the series courtesy a sublime century by captain Faf du Plessis and a blistering knock of 139 by the in-form David Miller. Dale Steyn’s successful comeback was another positive for the guests. Though Dale Steyn will not feature the only T20I against Australia, South Africa have enough quality in that attack which will be led by the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi.

Weather Conditions

Gold Coast Stadium at Queensland is a brand-new venue set for its international debut. As per the curator, it is going to be a run feast weather permitting. The tourist here can expect to see some batting exploits. The flat conditions ask a lot from the bowlers and often a good bowling side ends up winning on flat tracks. There are predictions of thunderstorms in the evening. For the sake of the fans, we hope that the only thunderstorms happening here are the ones from the blades of batsmen in the middle.

Toss:

South Africa are looking set to sign off the series with a win and they have put all the major cards on the table. Australia, on the other hand, will be playing some fringe players. South Africa’s batting looks set and has been firing on this tour. They also have the world-class bowlers for any format. Thus, our prediction is for South Africa to win this one-off T20I encounter against the Aussies.
