Australia will be looking to add some easy points to their WTC tally in this home series. They have been phenomenal at home and will pose a tough challenge to the visitors.

The pace department will be crucial for the Aussies. West Indies have played most of their matches at home this WTC cycle. They travelled to Sri Lanka for a two-match series and lost 0-2.

Scott Boland who made his Test debut during The Ashes will be a key player to watch out for in this series. Another in-form and consistent player for Australia is Usman Khawaja.

For West Indies, it will be the skipper Kraigg Brathwaite who will lead the batting effort at the top. He was in good form back home and was well supported by the likes of Kyle Mayers and Jermaine Blackwood.

There could be one potential debut from the West Indies camp. Tagenarine Chanderpaul is a 26-year-old left-handed batsman and son of the former cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Australia Preview

Australia are all set to solidify their place in the WTC points table with a thumping win at Perth. In the recent tour match, the Windies' batting lineup looked to be struggling against PM’s XI.

If Starc, with his new-ball skills, could get rid of the West Indies skipper early, it would open the door for Australia. A few early wickets and Australia will get through the lineup in a day.

Hazlewood, Cummins, and Boland will present the visitors with their harshest batting challenge ever. There is no team that hasn’t struggled to face Australian bowling down under.

David Warner has indicated that this could be his last year as a Test player. As such, he is likely to aim at finishing things in the red-ball format on a high.

Warner, Smith, and Labuschagne are the key batsmen in the Australian lineup. Khawaja’s form has also been top-notch lately and is another reliable batter in this squad.

Cummins will be tempted to go with an extra pacer instead of Nathan Lyon given the bouncy and fast nature of the pitch at Perth. Cameron Green, coming in fast, and bowling hard lengths would get enough bounce and movement off the pitch to trouble the Windies batters.

Australia Predicted Playing XI:

David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Josh Hazlewood

West Indies Preview

West Indies have won their last 3 consecutive Tests. And all of these matches were played back home. A recurring theme in this West Indies set-up is batting inconsistency.

Kraigg Brathwaite seems like the lone fighter in this batting lineup. Other middle-order batsmen who step up and deliver aren’t reliable. Jermaine Blackwood is a crucial name in the Windies' middle order.

He can spend long hours on the crease and build partnerships. The most exciting name in the current squad is Tagenarine Chanderpaul.

The 26-year-old left-handed batsman scored 119 and 56 in the tour match against PM’s XI as an opener for the team. This should make him a contender to be included in the playing XI for the Perth Test.

Kyle Mayers and Joshua Da Silva are other key players in the lower middle order. Mayers is known for his hard-hitting skills in the white-ball format. He can be very handy down the order not letting the opposition relax no matter how many wickets have gone down.

Joshua Da Silva was enjoying a great time on the field a couple of years ago being among the top run-scorers for West Indies along with the then captain, Jason Holder.

Things seem to be changing a lot for the former skipper as West Indies start giving preference to Raymon Reifer ahead of Holder. Kemar Roach will be the key bowler with plenty of experience and lead the pace attack that features Jayden Seales, and Alzarri Joseph

West Indies Predicted Playing XI:

Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Raymon Reifer, Nkrumah Bonner, Jermaine Blackwood, Kyle Mayers, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach, Anderson Phillip, Jayden Seales

Weather Conditions

The pitch offers bounce and pace and there is also some movement for bowlers who hit the hard lengths. The weather forecast is partly cloudy on the 1st Day of the Test with a high of 32 degrees Celsius. While the temperature would fall from the second day onward, the cloud cover would likely be there.

Venue Details

Perth Stadium is the venue for the 1st Test match of this series. The average 1st innings score at this venue is 371 runs. The average score in the 2nd and 3d innings of the Test is under 250 runs. The outfield at this ground is fast and with the right timing, players can score boundaries quickly.

Toss: To Bat

There have been only two Tests at this venue so far and the team batting first won both of them. The average score from 2nd innings onward is a lot lower than the 1st innings of the match. Both teams would be keen on opting to bat first if they win the toss.

Australia have a much stronger overall squad compared to the visiting team. There are many consistent and reliable players in every department of the home team. West Indies, on the other hand, are playing all-rounders in their middle order who haven’t proven their Test-playing credentials. It will be an uphill battle for West Indies and Australia will start as favourites in our match prediction.

Our prediction is for Australia to win the match
