After the ODI series concluded with Bangladesh winning the last match in Chattogram, the two teams are now all set to clash in the 1st T20I of the 3-match series at the same venue. The remaining two T20Is will be played in Dhaka.

The pitch conditions at the Zahur Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram allow for an even contest between bat and ball. As such, it promises to be an exciting game of T20 cricket with an in-form Shakib leading the hosts against the World T20 champions. 

There will be no Jason Roy or James Vince in the England squad for the T20Is. Ben Duckett is in the squad and the opening duo is likely to be Buttler-Salt followed by Moeen Ali or Malan.

Moeen Ali will be the impact player in the England squad. Bangladesh would be concerned about Liton Das’ form as he holds the key to a good start. Shanto and Shakib are reliable middle-order batters for the hosts but others aren’t in good form and it can make things difficult for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh will be playing their first T20I since November 2022 when they faced Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval in their last game of the T20 World Cup.

Except for a few changes, Bangladesh will be fielding almost the same team. There will be no Soumya Sarkar, Mossaek Hossein, and Ebadot Hossein for this T20I series.

Left-arm orthodox bowler Nasum Ahmed will be seen in the Bangladesh side for the T20Is and will be a key bowler to watch out for. The Chattogram pitch helps the spinners and it was evident in the 3rd ODI with Shakib and Taijul finding success.

There are many promising bowlers in the squad and with Shakib leading the attack, Bangladesh seems to be sorted on that front. However, there are batting issues the hosts need to address. They have failed consistently in the ODI series and apart from Shakib and Shanto, there aren’t any others who can be relied on at the moment.

Shanto will need support from his opening partner Litton Das. And while Shakib Al Hasan can play a crucial knock at number 3, it is again up to the all-rounder after these players fall. Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz followed by wicket-keeper batsman Nurul Hasan are all capable of playing impactful knocks.

England Preview

Jos Buttler would be pleased with his team’s overall performance so far and particularly the bowlers during the one-day series. On this ground, English bowlers dominated the opposition, not allowing another partnership to grow and turn into a big score. 

The batters failed to chase down a gettable total but now things will be different in the T20Is. England’s approach to cricket in every format has undergone a revolution of sorts in recent years. And it continues to lead them to newer heights. The likes of Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, and Jos Buttler will be key players with the bat in this game.

These batters can go after the bowlers from the get-go and help their team gain the upper hand in the contest. Dawid Malan can play the anchor’s role with his mature approach to his innings. 

England will need that given how the pitch has behaved on this ground in the last game. In the lower order, Sam Curran can be a destructive batter and play the long ball as often as England needs.

The all-rounders allow for depth in the batting order. Curran is also clever with the ball and is known for his ability to deliver breakthroughs. Along with Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan, he would be a great asset to England's pace attack.
