India and Bangladesh will square off in the first match of the three-match ODI series that begins on the 4th of December. The Men in Blue have been bolstered with the return of their main senior players and would be looking to end the year on a high. Bangladesh meanwhile, have been dealt a severe blow as captain Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the series due to injury while fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is all set to miss the first ODI because of a recurring back issue.

Bangladesh Preview

Bangladesh are always dangerous at home in limited-overs cricket. However, it remains to be seen how they deal with the absence of captain Tamim Iqbal. At the time of writing, the BCB is yet to name a captain or a replacement for Tamim. Mushfiqur Rahim or Shakib Al Hasan is likely to lead the team in his absence.

Litton will be the batsman to watch out for Bangladesh in this series. He is the highest run-getter for the team in ODIs this year, amassing 500 runs in 10 games at an average of 62.50. Afif Hossain (335 runs in 12 games at an average of 55.83) and Mamudullah (299 runs in 12 appearances at 59.80) have also done well. Mushfiqur Rahim has struggled with the bat this year, but his experience will still be handy in the middle order.

With Taskin missing the first game, the onus will now be on Musftafizur Rahman (12 wickets at an economy of 4.35 in 11 ODIs in 2022), Shakib Al Hasan (8 wickets in 6 matches at 4.24), and Hasan Mahmud to deliver the goods against India’s mighty batters.

Bangladesh Predicted Playing XI:

Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Anamul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Ebadot Hossain

Bangladesh Actual Playing XI:

Mehidy Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Ebadot Hossain, Mahmudullah, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Afif Hossain, Anamul Haque

India Preview

After fielding their second-string side on the tour of New Zealand, India will be happy to welcome Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul to their squad. Rohit has scored 171 runs in 6 ODIs in 2022 at an average of 34.20 with 2 half-centuries and would be eager to get some solid scores under his belt in this series. Kohli, too, hasn’t had the greatest of years in ODIs, scoring just 175 runs at an average of 21.87. However, the star Indian batsman has regained his touch in recent months and we can expect some big scores from him this series.

Shreyas Iyer is in sensational touch and is India’s best ODI batsman currently by some distance. The right-hander has slammed 566 runs in 11 ODIs at an average of 62.88 with 1 century and 5 half-centuries in 2022. KL Rahul is expected to take up the No.5 slot as he averages 56.62 in that position from 10 ODIs.

Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar are likely to make India’s bowling unit. Siraj has been impressive in ODIs this year, taking 12 wickets at an economy of 4.45. Sundar proved his all-round credentials in New Zealand where he shined as a lower-order batter. The pitches in Bangladesh should suit his bowling.

India Predicted Playing XI:

Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (wk), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj

India Actual Playing XI:

Mohammed Siraj, Lokesh Rahul, Kuldeep Sen, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar, Washington Sundar, Shreyas Iyer, Shahbaz Ahmed, Virat Kohli, Shardul Thakur

India have dominated Bangladesh in ODIs beating them in 30 matches out of the 36 they have played against them in the format. They have also won all of the last 5 ODIs they have played against the Bangla Tigers. The last time Bangladesh beat India in an ODI was back in June 2015. India will start as clear favorites for this match despite Bangladesh’s home advantage. The home side’s best chance is to restrict the Men in Blue for an under-250 total.

Back India as the winners of this contest.
