Bangladesh stunned India in the 1st ODI of the three-match series by snatching a sensational 1-wicket win and taking a 1-0 lead. In the low-scoring game, India batted poorly and posted a below-par total after being asked to bat first. Their bowlers did an outstanding job to make it a big enough target, but all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz took them home in the end with a knock for the ages. That win would have boosted the home side’s confidence tremendously and they would now be hard to stop.
Bangladesh asked India to bat first on a tough wicket at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in the first ODI. The ball was gripping the surface and Shakib Al Hasan produced a fantastic spell of 5-36 to put India on the back foot with regular wickets. Fast bowler Ebadot Hossain (4-47) further dented India’s chances of posting a formidable total and they were eventually bundled out for 186.
Chasing the small target, Bangladesh were cruising at 128-4 in the 35th over at one point. However, some incisive bowling from the visitors had them reeling at 136-9. It was Miraz (38* off 39 balls) and Mustafizur Rahman (10* off 11 balls) who took them home in emphatic fashion.
The next match will be played at the same venue and Bangladesh are likely to retain the same eleven.

India’s problems in limited-overs cricket continue to rise with every passing game. Their top-order has been ineffective for a while now and in the first ODI too, they failed to deliver with Shikhar Dhawan, captain Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli falling cheaply yet again. KL Rahul top-scored with 73 off 70 balls but didn’t get any support from the other batters. With the top-order looking scratchy and out of touch, the onus will once again be on Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to make the big runs.
india’s bowling was good for the most part in the last game. Defending a small target, the seamers bowled their heart out to keep the opposition batters under constant pressure. Mohammed Siraj (3-32) was the pick of the lot and he will be the one to watch out for in this series. Deepak Chahar started well but was poor at the death and that might prove costly in the other games too. Washington Sundar (2-17) bowled tight lines and lengths but left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed kept leaking runs at the other end. India would be hoping that Axar Patel is available for the second match as he can keep it tight in the middle overs.

As we saw in the first ODI, the pitch at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka is really slow. The ball keeps low and often sticks to the wicket, making it hard to score freely. Fast bowlers need to keep varying their pace to get the best out of this surface. Spinners will again enjoy bowling here.
The weather in Dhaka for the 2nd ODI will be hazy and slightly cool.
The average total batting first at the Shere Bangla National Stadium is only 228. Given what we saw in the first ODI of the series, the wicket is unlikely to change much and the batters are likely to struggle again. The team batting first should look to post a total of around 250 runs to feel safe.
The team winning the toss will choose to bowl first on this wicket.
That memorable nail-biting win in the first ODI would have given Bangladesh some much-needed confidence. They have struggled against India in the past but this is a great opportunity for them to seal another ODI series win against their rivals. India’s batting is looking out of sorts and their bowling lacks teeth. Bangladesh has enough depth in their batting and their bowling has plenty of variety for these conditions. Unless India bats out of their skin, Bangladesh should fancy their chances of clinching the series in the second ODI.
Bangladesh will register a win in the 2nd ODI.
