Bangladesh beat Ireland by 126 runs

Ireland have beaten Bangladesh just once in 4 T20Is.

  • Najmul Hossain Shanto has been in great form and is the batter to watch out for.
  • The Bangladeshi spinners might prove to be too hot to handle for the Irish batters.
  • It has been seven years since the last T20I meeting between the two teams.

Back Bangladesh as the winners of this clash.

Bangladesh are having a fantastic run in white-ball cricket at home. After whitewashing England 3-0 in a T20I series, they gave Ireland a 2-0 thrashing in an ODI series, which finished on the 23rd of March. They will now take on the Irish in a three-match T20I series beginning this Monday. The Tigers have always been a formidable opponent at home, but in the current run of form, it will be a herculean task for the visiting Ireland side to stop them.

Bangladesh Preview

This Bangladeshi side is brimming with confidence and have all bases covered. Their batting will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto who was the leading run-getter in the T20I series against England with 144 runs.

Litton Das (314 runs in the last 10 games at an average of 31 and a strike rate of 140) has looked in fine nick for a while now across formats. We are backing him to produce something special in this match.

Skipper Shakib Al Hasan will once again play a crucial role. He had a quiet series against England with the bat, but we expect him to play some useful knocks in this series.

On these slow and sluggish wickets, Bangladesh’s spinners will pose serious threats to the Irish batters, who aren’t used to playing such quality spin. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, in particular, could be the man to keep pegging Ireland back with his slowish off-breaks. He had taken 4 wickets in two matches against England at an economy of just 5.

Spinners aren’t the only threat that Ireland need to negate. Bangladeshi quicks Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed are sure to make an impact as well. Taskin usually takes wickets at the start while Mustafizur makes life difficult for batters with his cutters during the death overs. You should also keep an eye for the young Hasan Mahmud, who is fresh off a career-best 5-32 against Ireland in the 3rd ODI.

Bangladesh Predicted Playing XI:

Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Das (wk), Rony Talukdar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz , Shoriful Islam , Taskin Ahmed , Hasan Mahmud , Mustafizur Rahman

Ireland Preview

Before their tour of Bangladesh, Ireland had squared off in a T20I series against Zimbabwe, which they lost 2-1. They will face an even stiffer challenge here in Bangladesh. Losing the ODI series, of course, would have dented their confidence.

Skipper Andy Balbirnie has a massive responsibility and will have to lead from the front. He hasn’t been in the best of form but scored 1857 T20I runs with 8 fifties. Lorcan Tucker (204 runs in the last 7 matches at an average of 40.80 and a strike rate of 125.15) is our batter to watch out from Ireland.

Harry Tector was Ireland’s leading run-getter in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, scoring 78 runs in 3 matches. He’s a middle-order batter who can provide some stability to the innings.

Ireland will be counting on Mark Adair to fire. The right-arm fast bowler has taken 8 wickets in his last 10 games at an economy of 8.12 and might trouble the batters with the new ball. All-rounder Harry Tector, who was Ireland’s highest wicket-taker in the T20I series against Zimbabwe with 5 scalps at just 4.41) will find help from these surfaces. The off-spinner job will be to keep things tight in the middle overs and try to put pressure on the batters.

Ireland Predicted Playing XI:

Andy Balbirnie (c), Ross Adair, Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Lorcan Tucker (wk), George Dockrell, Barry McCarthy, Mark Adair, Fionn Hand, Ben White

Weather Conditions

The pitch at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium is usually slow. Spinners will find plenty of purchase here while batters will struggle to get their rhythm. The new batters to the crease will particularly struggle. Seamers who vary their lines and bowl a few cutters will find success here.

The weather in Chattogram during the game will be warm and humid.

Venue Details

The average 1st innings score at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium is 146. The highest total posted at the venue is 196-5 by South Africa. Scores between 150 and 169 have been achieved six times in 21 T20Is. The team batting first in this match should look to set a target of around 170 runs.

Toss: To Bowl

Of the 21 T20I matches played here, 11 have been won by the chasing side. The last T20I match played here was between Bangladesh and England earlier this month, which Bangladesh won comfortably by 6 wickets. The team winning the toss is likely to field first in this game.

Bangladesh have won 3 of the 4 T20Is they have played against Ireland. The last time Ireland beat Bangladesh in a T20I was way back in June 2009. It’s safe to say that the Tigers will begin as overwhelming favorites for this series and match. They have been in incredible form at home in white-ball cricket and seem unstoppable at the moment. They have great batting depth, and their bowling has tremendous variety. This Ireland side doesn’t seem to be well-equipped to handle the Bangladeshi bowers on these surfaces.

Back Bangladesh as the winners of this clash.
