The fourth match of the T20 series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe gets underway on the 10th of May. Having taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, the hosts will be looking to clamp down on the visitors and make it 5-0.
With Shakib al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Sowmya Sarkar returning to the fray, a whitewash is not out of the question. Zimbabwe delivered their best in the third match of the series when it mattered, but couldn’t quite wrap up the chase. A 9-run loss dashed the visitors’ hopes of coming back into the series, however they will not treat the remaining matches as dead rubbers.
A win in one of the two matches will be more than just a consolation. Zimbabwe will need to find a way to avoid being whitewashed for the second time in a row, after they had to return home winless on their last tour to Bangladesh just before the COVID pandemic struck.
Bangladesh have been outstanding the whole series, and haven’t had to work hard to pick up a win except the third T20I where the visitors pressed the hosts and ran them close.
Opener Litton Das is going through a lean patch, but his partner Tanzid Hassan has done well scoring 106 off 3 games with a high score of 67*.
Captain Najmul Shanto has had a quiet series, leaving the bulk of the middle order duties to Towhid Hridoy, who has relished the responsibility.
His 3 innings in the series have so far produced 127 runs and the best thing about is that he has scored his runs quickly at an impressive strike rate of 157.
The lower order hasn’t had to do much except come in at the death and deal some heavy blows. The bowling group has done well, with Taskin Ahmed and Mohd. Saifudding picking up 13 wickets between them in 3 matches. Saifuddin, in particular, hasn’t shown any signs of rustiness coming into the fold after two years. Mahedi Hasan’s stingy spells have made run-scoring difficult for Zimbabwean batsmen, but the same cannot be said of spinner Rishad Hossain who has leaked too many runs than he’d have liked.

Zimbabwe’s wretched tour of Bangladesh continues. With their third straight loss at Chattogram, the African nation now has seven successive defeats against Bangladesh in Bangladesh.
However, to their credit, the Zim team put up a strong performance and came agonizingly close to beating Bangladesh in their own backyard for the first time in 8 years.
The top order have let the team down three times on the bounce, leaving the middle order and the lower order to do most of the work.
Jonathan Campbell (66 runs from 2 games) and Brian Bennett (65 runs from 3 games) have taken the mantle from the usual suspects like Craig Ervine (25 runs from 3 games), Sikandar Raza (4 runs from 3 games) who’re having a horrible series with the bat. Raza’s miserable form with the bat has affected his bowling form, as well.
The talented spinner has returned figures of 1/100 off his 12 overs in three games. His all-round skills have been so crucial in the past few years, but his lack of form with the bat and ball has clearly hurt Zimbabwe’s chances of competing well in this series.
Other than Blessing Muzarbani, whose 11.3 overs in the tournament have produced 4 wickets, none of the bowlers have been able to put pressure on the Bangladeshi batsmen.

The slow and dry nature of the surfaces here brings spinners into play, so we reckon both teams will get their spinners to do the bulk of the bowling to see if they can extract some assistance off the deck. Mirpur decks, not one of the high-scoring surfaces you get in this part of the world, will be hard to score runs on especially if the ball starts turning a fair bit. The forecast for the game looks good, and there should be no weather-induced delay.
The match will be played at the Dhaka stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. In their recent ten matches here, Bangladesh have claimed two wins batting first and two chasing. 4 wins from 10 games is nothing to boast of, however that number improves slightly to 8 wins from 15 games.
As the stats indicate, winning the toss doesn’t get a team any distinct advantage over their opposition at this venue. Considering that the team chasing has won twice and come close to winning one in this series, our guess is that the team winning the toss will opt to bat second.
Bangladesh will be buoyed by the return of skilful players such as Shakib al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman. With these players coming into the mix, Bangladesh have become much stronger and will be hard to stop.
We are backing Bangladesh as winners of this contest.
