Tournament: Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe 2020 | Format: T20 | Venue: Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka, Bangladesh | Toss: To Bat
Bet NowZimbabwe's tour to Bangladesh got from bad to worse as they were trounced by 48 runs in the 1st T20I against Bangladesh at Dhaka.
The home side was absolutely clinical in all the departments and didn't let the opposition into the game at any point. Throughout this limited-overs series, Bangladesh has batted first and showed their batting prowess and the 1st T20I was no different. They have now taken a 1-0 lead in the 2-match series and are certainly aiming for another clean sweep.
Zimbabwe, meanwhile, can only hope for some kind of inspiration to push them hard and level the series. That looks difficult right now as Bangladesh at home is simply too strong.
Bangladesh's batting has been exceptional throughout the tour. First, they scored three consecutive totals of 300-plus in the ODI series. Now, they followed it up by amassing 200-3 in the first T20I and batting Zimbabwe out of the game.
The opening duo of Tamim Iqbal (41) and Liton Das (59) showed their class once again by sharing a stand of 92 runs in just 10.2 overs. Soumya Sarkar, who returned to the team after a while, scored a superb unbeaten 62 off 32 balls to set up the total. With the top-order being in such healthy form and with the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah to follow, Bangladesh's batting unit looks impregnable at the moment.
Bangladesh's bowlers did a great job on a good batting surface in the first T20I to restrict the opposition. Mustafizur Rahman led from the front with a spell of 3-32. Shafiul Islam, Mohammad Saifuddin and Aminul Islam all played their supporting roles to perfection and it shows how effective this bowling unit can be on home conditions.

Zimbabwe was once again found wanting against a much stronger Bangladesh team. They have been hurt badly by their bowling unit throughout this tour and the 1st T20I saw their bowlers produce another poor show. Barring Sikandar Raza and captain Sean Williams' economical spell, everyone else went for runs. Carl Mumba, Donald Tiripano and Chris Mpofu were particularly bad and it remains to be seen if they can do any good in the last game of the tour.
If there is anything that can salvage some pride for Zimbabwe on this tour, it is their batting unit. They have the potential but have not been able to tackle the pressure of the tall scores their bowlers forced them to chase. Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine are two of their senior and experienced cricketers but they have failed to take responsibility. Captain Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza are the other two who have been inconsistent. With all their senior batsmen failing to produce the big runs, it is no wonder that Zimbabwe has failed. Perhaps they can finally come good in the last match. Wesley Madhevere and Tinashe Kamunhukamwe too can hopefully pitch in and contribute.

As we saw in the first T20I, the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka is a fantastic T20 venue with plenty of runs for the batsmen. The team batting first will have an advantage as the pitch will be hard and the bounce will be even. The surface does slow down towards the middle stage and the spinners do come into play. The weather for the matchday at Dhaka is expected to warm and clear.
With the 200-3 by Bangladesh in the first T20I, totals of 200-plus have now been achieved thrice at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The highest total posted on the venue is a whopping 211-4 by Bangladesh against the West Indies in 2018. For the 2nd T20I, expect another high-scoring game with a total of 180-200 if Bangladesh bats first.
The team batting first has won all the games on this tour. For this match too, the team winning the toss will be looking to bat first and post a healthy total.
Bangladesh has been dominant and relentless throughout this limited-overs series and it doesn't look like they will give in now. Their batting unit, especially, has really been outstanding throughout and has been remarkably consistent. They also have the perfect bowlers for these conditions and would hence be really difficult to beat at home.
This Zimbabwe side simply doesn't look to have the punch to take on Bangladesh at home at this moment. They have derailed and it will be a shock if they can pick themselves up to even run the home side close on the last game of the tour.
Expect Bangladesh to dominate again and clinch the 2nd T20I!
