Bangladesh were outplayed in every department in their last game as South Africa cruised to a 104-runs win. While the Bangladesh batting has been out of touch for quite some time now, their bowlers also failed to keep things tight in their last match.

Bangladesh kicked off their T20 World Cup campaign on a winning note, defeating the Netherlands by 9 runs. While it wasn’t a convincing win given how Bangladesh managed to score just 144 runs batting first. 

It was Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud who led a brilliant bowling effort to restrict the opposition and give Bangladesh their first win of the tournament. 

There weren’t many positives for Bangladesh from their first win. And when they were up against a mighty batting lineup, even the bowlers failed to make any impact. The most successful bowler against the Netherlands, Taskin Ahmed, was the most expensive against the Proteas.

Shakib Al Hasan used all of his bowling options in an attempt to stop the bleeding of runs. While Mustafizur was economical in his spell, he was wicketless and thereby failed to make any significant impact.

Now, it will be again down to these key bowlers to win the match for Bangladesh when they clash against Zimbabwe in Sydney. It is only the bowlers who can make the game exciting and give Bangladesh fans something to cheer for.

The best of Bangladesh batting is in the top 4 - Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, and Shakib Al Hasan. A 1-run win over Pakistan in a low-scoring match where Zimbabwe were out of the game at the halfway stage has surely lifted their spirits. Not only at the end of the first innings, but even for the most part of the run chase, Craig Ervine’s side looked like they were out of the contest. 

A magical spell from Sikandar Raza followed by some disciplined pace bowling at the death turned the game on its head. Not to forget the brilliant effort in the field from Zimbabweans.

While Zimbabwe are yet to lose a game in the Super 12s, that doesn’t change the fact that batting hasn’t been their best asset lately. They can’t rely on their batters to win games for them. 

Though there are some big names like Sikandar Raza, Sean Willimas, and Craig Ervine in this lineup, the batting hasn’t made a mark in Super 12s yet. In their first Super 12 game, Zimbabwe lost their top 4 batsmen for just 19 runs in a rain-affected match which was reduced to 9 overs per side. 

It was Madhevere’s unbeaten 35 off 18 balls at number 5 that helped Zimbabwe post a 79-runs total giving the bowlers something to defend. 

It was a disaster with the ball as Zimbabwe conceded 51 off the first 3 overs before the rain came to rescue them. The win against Pakistan was a must-needed one after what happened in the game against the Proteas.

Like their opposition, Zimbabwe are also dependent on a few good bowlers to keep them in the match. And unless their key batters fire, Zimbabwe might be staring at their first loss in the T20 World Cup 2022.
