It will be an important day for the United States Women crickety as they play their first-ever ODI when they meet Bangladesh Women in the 5th game of ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2021. It will be a tough challenge for them to defeat Bangladesh Women who have started their tournament on a strong note defeating Pakistan Women.

United States Women have young and experienced players in the squad, and it would be interesting to see how they deliver on the big stage. Their batting line-up would have to deliver for the side to win this game.  Bangladesh Women would like to maintain their momentum and win this game to put themselves in a comfortable position on the points table.

Bangladesh Women Preview

Nigar Sultana would be happy to have started the tournament with a win. They played hard against Pakistan Women and won by 3 wickets against what most pundits had predicted. The side would look to maintain the same momentum here in this game. Sultana would want her players to play their natural game and not become complacent.

Sharmin Akhter played well and she would look to set up a good opening wicket stand with Murshid Khatun who struggled in the last game. Fargana Hoque, Sultana, and Rumana Ahmed add solidity to this batting line-up in the middle. With the big-hitting skills of Ritu Moni and Lata Mondal towards the end, the side has a good batting line-up.

Jahanara Alam and Salma Khatun bowled brilliantly with the new ball in the last game and the same would be needed from them here. Ritu Moni and Nahida Akter were also good with their line and length in the last game. The side has lots of bowling options with Rumana Ahmed, Fatima Khatun, and Lata Mondal on the side.

Bangladesh Women Predicted Playing XI:

Nigar Sultana (c & wk), Fargana Hoque, Nahida Akter, Rumana Ahmed, Sharmin Akhter, Fahima Khatun, Salma Khatun, Jahanara Alam, Lata Mondal, Murshida Khatun, Ritu Moni

United States Women Preview

Sindhu Sriharsha would be aware of the challenge her side faces as they go into the first game of the tournament. Most of their players don’t have experience playing this format of the game and it would be an uphill challenge for them against Bangladesh Women. Sriharsha would want her players to make an impressive debut and put up a good fight.

Mahika Kandanala and Lisa Ramjit would have big responsibilities on their shoulders opening the batting for the side in this game. Sriharsha would have to make good use of her experience and anchor the innings in this game along with Anika Kolan and Shebani Bhaskar. They would also like to see runs in the finishers’ role from Isani Vaghela and Moksha Chaudhary.

The new ball pair of Moksha Chaudhary and Sara Farooq shall have big responsibilities on their shoulders in this game bowling to a strong side. Uzma Iftikhar and Akshatha Rao shall need to make good use of the conditions here and keep a check on the scoring rate. The side would also like to see tight spells from Geetika Kodali and Kandanala in this game.

United States Women Predicted Playing XI:

Sindhu Sriharsha (c & wk), Mahika Kandanala, Lisa Ramjit, Anika Kolan, Shebani Bhaskar, Isani Vaghela, Sara Farooq, Moksha Chaudhary, Uzma Iftikhar, Akshatha Rao, Geetika Kodali

Weather Conditions

There are predictions for cloudy skies and rains in Harare on November 23 and batting conditions won’t be easy. The surface looked slow in the warmup games played here and the ball isn’t coming onto the bat nicely. The side batting first in the game would be happy to put 230 runs or more on the board.

Venue Details

Sunrise Sports Club, Harare is a small ground and has a slow outfield with thick grass cover. Batting has been a challenge here due to the slowness of the surface and batters need to adjust to the pace of the track. Fast bowlers do get early assistance from the track, but spinners have enjoyed a good record in this venue.

Toss: To Bowl

The wicket is expected to be dual paced and the overcast weather conditions would make batting difficult. In a rain-curtailed contest, the side chasing the score would have an advantage and hence we hope to see the side winning the toss have little hesitation in opting to bowl first on this track.

It will be a test of character for the United States Women. They haven’t played in this format against the top sides in the world and must adjust to the pace of the game. They would have to overcome their lack of experience with spirited performance here. Bangladesh would be confident after their win in the last game with their batting and bowling looking in great shape. This would make them favorites to win the next game.
