This game would mark the debut for Barbados Women in this format of the game. Pakistan Women haven’t been in great form and lost in the tri-nation tournament in Ireland coming here.

Barbados Women has several experienced players on the side who represent West Indies Women. They have a strong bowling attack which is an advantage on this track that is known for being a batter’s paradise. Pakistan Women shall have to play out of their skins to win in these conditions. It is the first game for both sides in this tournament and we expect to see tough cricket out in the middle.

Barbados Women Preview

It will be a proud moment for Hayley Matthews as she leads Barbados in this historic contest. It will be a rare chance to see the Barbadian team in action which has some of the biggest names from the West Indies cricket team. Matthew who has a lot of experience would look to guide her side to a win and exploit the weaknesses that Pakistanis have in these conditions.

Barbados would look for a good start from Haley Matthews and Deandra Dottin who have opened together in the past. The middle order has firepower with Kyshona Knight, Kycia Knight, and Alisa Scantlebury known for being good stroke players. They would aim to build partnerships in the middle. They have good finishers in Shai Carrington and Keila Elliott and shall expect quick runs from them.

Matthews and Shakera Selman are experienced new ball bowlers, and they would like to put the Pakistanis under pressure by bowling good spells with the new ball. Aaliyah Alleyne and Shamilia Connell shall enjoy these conditions and the side would expect to see tight spells from them in this game. Elliott, Dottin, and Shaunte Carrington add variety to this attack making it strong.

Pakistan Women Preview

Bismah Maroof would be aware of her side’s weaknesses in these conditions. Their batters have struggled to negotiate the bounce and extra pace on English surfaces in the past. The wicket here would be flatter, and this can work to the side’s advantage. The Pakistani skipper would like her players to rise and deliver a good show in their first game of the tournament.

The side would need Muneeba Ali and Iram Javed to set up a good opening wicket stand. Both players have struggled in recent matches and must down well. Maroof shall have to lead from the front and add runs in the middle order with Omaima Sohail and Ayesha Naseem. Aliya Riaz and Kainat Imtiaz have very important roles to play as their top order hasn’t been in the best of form.

Fatima Sana and Diana Baig have lots of experience and the side would expect to see a strong start from them. Early wickets shall put the side in a comfortable position in this game. Anam Amin and Omaima Sohail have to check the flow of runs given the batting firepower Barbados has. Nida Dar and Kainat Imtiaz make this a strong bowling attack.

Weather Conditions

It will be a warm and comfortable evening at Birmingham on July 29. We expect to flat batting surface where batters would get to strike the ball easily. Bowlers shall have little margin for error and must bowl good lines. The side batting first would need more than 160 runs on the board.

Venue Details

Edgbaston, Birmingham is a great batting surface where batters have done well and made big scores. The ball comes to the bat nicely allowing them to play their strokes. Fast bowlers get the ball to move in the early overs of the game. It is a tough venue for the spinners as the ball doesn’t turn much.

Toss: To Bat

The batting conditions are expected to be best at the start of the game. In recent matches played here, we have seen the track get slower as the game progresses. The side winning the toss would look to take advantage of the conditions. They are expected to opt for batting in this game.

We are likely to see a close contest as both sides battle it out for their first points in the tournament Pakistan Women have struggled in these conditions and they shall have to overcome this weakness against a strong bowling attack. Barbados Women have some of the best hitters in this format and a good bowling attack. They would start nose ahead of Pakistan in this game.
