Bengal have made a fantastic start to their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023, winning both their first two games with authority. They are now second in the Group E table with 8 points and a NRR of 3.059. Their next clash is against Tamil Nadu, who have also made a winning start to their season and are one place below Bengal in the table.
Bengal have secured two solid wins to kick off their season – against Nagaland by 9 wickets and against Baroda by 95 runs.
Abhimanyu Easwaran has easily been the batting superstar for Bengal this season. He has a hundred and a fifty to his name already, including a superb 141 off 138 balls in the previous game against Baroda that helped his team post 314-8 on the board. Abishek Porel (59 off 65 balls) also played an important part in that match.
Also, keep an eye out for Sudip Kumar Gharam. The skipper has had an excellent run of late, amassing 435 runs in his last 7 games at an average of 72.5.
Off-spinner Karan Lal has led Bengal’s bowling this year, with an impressive haul of 5 wickets at an average of 12.20. Left-arm spinner Pradipta Pramanik (4 wickets at 17.50) is another bowler worth backing.

Tamil Nadu have started their season with a comprehensive 33-run win against Goa. Asked to bat first at the Dadoji Konddev Stadium in Thane, they scored 296-8 and bowled Goa out for 263.
Their innings revolved around a wonderful knock of 125 off 144 balls by Sai Sudharsan. The young left-handed opener has collected 735 runs from his last 9 matches and is set for a big season this time.
Another batter to watch out for is Narayan Jagadeesan. He was the tournament’s top scorer last season with 830 runs in 8 innings, including a record-breaking 277 against Arunachal Pradesh.
The bowling unit will primarily depend on Sandeep Warrier (14 wickets in the last 9 matches) and Sai Kishore (11 wickets in the last 10 matches).

This isn’t a batting paradise. Batters need to spend some time to get used to the conditions to score big runs. There is some help for the spinners too.
The weather in Mumbai will be cloudy with some showers expected at some point.
The average score batting first in ODIs at the Brabourne Stadium is just 189. In the previous game played here, Bengal posted 314-8 after batting first and won the game by 95 runs. A total of around 270 should be par here.
Brabourne Stadium doesn’t usually favor any particular side. However, rain is expected during the match, which might tempt the toss-winning captain to field first.
The last time Bengal beat Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was way back in 2014. So, clearly, Tamil Nadu have the mental edge in this contest. Bengal have started well, but Tamil Nadu are formidable opponents who have most bases covered. This should be a cracker of a contest, but we feel Tamil Nadu should come out on top.
We are backing Tamil Nadu as the winners of this match.
