Boland must be looking forward to this home game against the Warriors at Boland Park in Paarl, especially after the defeat against the Knights in the opening game of the season 2024-25. Last season, too, wasn't very successful for Boland, as they managed just a solitary win in 7 games and finished only above KwaZulu-Natal Island at the bottom of the table.

In the opening game of the season against the Knights, Boland bowled first and restricted the Knights to a score of 266. Shaun von Berg was the peak of the bowler, who took four wickets for 61 runs. In response, Boland also scored 266 runs in their first innings, courtesy of a couple of half-centuries from Gavin Kaplan and captain Clyde Fortuin. 

Tied on the first innings, Boland managed to get the Knights all out for 291 in the second innings. Shaun Von Berg was again the best bowler with three wickets for 79 runs. The second inning for Boland proved to be a disaster, though, as chasing 292, the Boland team was bundled out for just 122 runs in under 50 overs. As many as 6 Boland batters scored runs in single digits. Hopefully, they will manage a better batting performance against the Warriors.

Warriors Preview

The Warriors had a much better opening game compared to Bolan. It was a game that the Warriors should have won. They failed to take the last couple of wickets against North West, thus ending the match in a draw. The last season was average for the Warriors, whereas the one before that ended in the top 2 finish.

Winning the toss and batting first in the first game, the Warriors scored 298 in the first innings. Captain Jordan Hermann and Matthew De Villiers both got out in the 90s. Thanks to the 4-wicket haul each by Duanne Oliver and Beyers Swanepoel, the Warriors managed to get North West all out for 239 runs, getting a minor lead after the first innings.

Warriors were struggling in their second innings at 109 for 4. However, four half-centuries down the order helped them recover to 386 for 8, declared. Sinehemba Qeshile and Patrick Kruger top scored with 71 and 79 runs, respectively, setting a target of 442 for North West. 

The target proved too much for North West, but the crucial time lost in setting it up meant the Warriors did not have enough time to get all out and win the game. Warriors may need to be braver to force a result in their favour.
