Of the 7 matches played thus far in the Caribbean Premier League 2022, 4 have been affected by rain. 2 of these matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

CPL now shifts to St Lucia for the next few matches before it goes to Trinidad and then finally to Guyana. The next 8 matches including this one will be played at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.

Both Trinbago and Barbados Royals pack a strong overall squad with some big-hitting batters throughout the lineup. This ground offers a fair competition between bat and ball.

And as such, this match promises to be an exciting one with the likes of Cornwall, Mayers, Miller on one side and Pollard, Tim Seifert, and Russell on the other. It is the bowling department where the 4-time CPL title winners TKR seem to have an edge over a relatively inexperienced Barbados Royals bowling attack.

Barbados Royals Preview

Kyle Mayers’ all-round performance helped the Royals win their second consecutive match of the season. The 29-year-old batting all-rounder has looked in great shape from the get-go.

Rakheem Cornwall and Mayers form a great opening duo and have scored 49 and 64 runs for the opening wicket in their last two outings. The change in the venue can make things better for the middle-order batters as they are yet to make an impact.

Quinton de Kock, Azam Khan, and Harry Tector all failed to make any significant contributions in their last innings. Miller put himself way down the order in the last game as he walked in to bat at number 6 and scored an unbeaten 25 off 15 balls.

Miller is a great number 4 option for any T20 side in the world. It could be a strategy to test Azam Khan and Harry Tector in the middle order as these are still early days in CPL 2022.  Nevertheless, the Royals should not waste a squad with such great potential in too much experimentation. They need to keep a few constants in the playing XI and the lineup so the players can adapt to their roles as soon as they can.

Barbados Royals Predicted Playing XI:

Rahkeem Cornwall, Quinton de Kock (wk), Kyle Mayers, Corbin Bosch, Azam Khan, David Miller (c), Harry Tector, Jason Holder, Obed McCoy, Joshua Bishop, Ramon Simmonds

Trinbago Knight Riders Preview

Pollard must be keen to get his team back on the ground and play some quality cricket. After their first win of the season, Knight Riders were to face off against the defending champions at Warner Park.

However, the rain had its say and the match was abandoned without a ball bowled. This could have an impact on the momentum of the players as there has been a 6-days gap between their last outing and this one.

Knight Riders witnessed some issues in their middle-order in CPL 2021 and it seems that the same issues might be haunting TKR this year too. Tim Seifert may be taking up the role of an anchor in the middle order.  However, Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell aren’t expected to stay at the crease long and build the innings. Pooran’s natural game is to be attacking the bowlers no matter what the situation is.

That has been the Windies’ approach in T20 internationals in recent years. Most of their players are known for smashing the ball out of the park. As such, Knight Riders look short on players who can tune their innings according to the situation. Nevertheless, the bowling attack has plenty of experience, talent, and variety, and that can put TKR on top of the game.

Trinbago Knight Riders Predicted Playing XI:

Tion Webster, Tim Seifert (wk), Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard (c), Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Seekkuge Prasanna, Anderson Phillip, Akeal Hosein, Shaaron Lewis, Jayden Seales

Weather Conditions

The weather is likely to be the same as it was at the previous venue. Light showers are expected on match day in Gros Islet, St Lucia. The pitch offers help for the fast bowlers and is not a typically high-scoring one.

Venue Details

The Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium has hosted 18 T20Is in which the average 1st inning score was 160 runs. In domestic T20s too, the average 1st innings score is almost the same. Only 9 out of 27 domestic T20s at this venue, a team has scored a total of 170 and above.

Toss: To Bowl

Teams batting second have an advantage at this ground. 17 of the 27 domestic T20s played here were won by the team batting second with an average 1st innings score of 159 runs.

Both Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders have deep batting lineups and great finishers in the side. Captains of both sides will most likely opt to bowl first on winning the toss.

Both teams have a strong and well-balanced squad that features many experienced and talented batters in every role. Trinbago Knight Riders are likely to encounter some problems in the middle-order though their finishers are reliable T20 players.

Barbados Royals’ inexperienced bowling attack can be a problem for them when they take on a mighty Knight Riders side. Our prediction gives Knight Riders a slight edge over the Royals and they will start as favourites to win.

Our prediction is for Trinbago Knight Riders to win the match
