Tournament: Big Bash League 2021-22 | Format: T20 | Venue: The Gabba, Brisbane, Australia | Toss: To Bowl
Bet NowWe are almost nearing the midpoint in the league stage for Big Bash League 2021-22 and the 23rd game between the Brisbane Heat and the Melbourne Stars would be an important one. Both sides gave won two out of the five games they have played so far. Brisbane Heat defeated the Adelaide Strikers in their previous outing while the Melbourne Stars went down against the Hobart Hurricanes.
The Melbourne Stars have powerful hitters of the ball in their sider but their bowling attack has looked in poor form in the last two games the side has played. They would have to make improvements in this department in this game to end their losing run. The Brisbane Heat on their part would look to retain their momentum as most of their key players have so far been inconsistent.
It was an important win for Jimmy Peirson’s side in the last game. They batted well to put up a big score on the board and defeated the Adelaide Strikers by 39 runs in the last game. They will face a bigger challenge as they take on the Melbourne Stars in the next game. Their opponents have a powerful batting line-up and Peirson would want his bowlers to come up with good efforts in this contest.
The side would expect to see a good start in this game from Max Bryant and Chris Lynn who haven’t delivered as a pair yet. The middle order is looking good with Tom Cooper, Ben Duckett, and Sam Heazlett scoring runs and this would add to the side’s confidence. They would need big hitting from Peirson and James Bazley in their bid to put up a big score on the board.
On the bowling front, the side would need a good show from Mark Steketee who did well in the last game. Matthew Kuhnemann must get his acts together as he leaked runs in the last game. Mujeeb ur Rahman must bring his experience to play here and keep things under check in the middle overs with Bazley and Liam Guthrie.

Glenn Maxwell would be upset with the form of his bowlers at the moment. Their poor show has resulted in two consecutive losses for the side. They lost against the Hobart Hurricanes in their last game by 24 runs and Maxwell would want his players to make a strong comeback. He would like to see more disciplined efforts from his bowlers as they go into this game.
Openers Marcus Stoinis and Joe Clarke have failed as a pair and the side would like to see them come up with a better show in this game. Maxwell has looked in good shape and he strengthens the middle order with Joe Burns. In Andre Russell, they have one of the best hitters of the ball in the side and he would look to add quick runs with Hilton Cartwright and Beau Webster.
The side would need a good start in this game with the new ball from Brody Couch and Maxwell as they bowled poor lines against the Hurricanes. Adam Zampa coming back to the side would be a big advantage. Nathan Coulter-Nile did well in the last game and he would look to keep bowling tight lines in the middle overs along with Qais Ahmed.

Weatherman predicts rains for Brisbane on December 27 and we should be lucky to see a complete game without any disruptions. The ball would do a lot on the surface and batsmen would have to play to the merit of the ball. The side batting first in this game would be happy to get 170 runs on the board.
The Gabba, Brisbane is a good T20 venue as the smaller size of the venue offers plenty of scoring opportunities for the batsmen. Fast bowlers also get good assistance from the surface and have done well in the past. It is a challenging venue for the spinners as there is little margin of error for them.
In the past, most teams have won the toss and preferred batting first. The wicket remains good throughout the game and big scores can easily be chased here. We expect this trend to continue and the side winning the toss would have little hesitation in opting to bowl first in the game.
It will be an interesting game as both sides have had a similar trajectory so far in the season. Brisbane Heat would be confident after their win in the last game but the challenge for them would be to show consistency. Melbourne Stars on their part have one of the best batting line-ups in the tournament and this would place them slightly ahead of Brisbane Heat and make them favorites to win here.
