Bardoa will be taking on Bengal in the Round 2 Group E match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Krunal Pandya and Abhimanyu Singh led the comeback after an early collapse against Punjab.
They still finished with a below-par total batting first and it was the bowlers who led them to a 3-run win. Bengal registered a 9-wicket win in their opening game after the bowlers wrapped up the Nagaland innings for just 139 runs.
The bowlers in both teams are on song and will be their biggest assets. Baroda’s lower-order must have raised their hopes after and they will be expecting the top-order to also find its rhythm in this match.
Baroda needs to quickly bounce back with the bat and what better opportunity than this match which will be played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai? It is a high-scoring venue where MP chased down 273 runs with 7 wickets in hand in the Round 1 match this season.
Jyotsnil Singh and Ninad Rathva will be hoping to find their rhythm and build a strong opening partnership on this pitch. Skipper Pandya, who himself scored 49 runs at number 5 will be hopeful of a comeback considering the performances of Abhimanyu Singh and Shivalik Sharma in the middle and lower order.
There is depth in this lineup and Pandya should also be looking to make a bigger impact himself. The bowlers looked in great touch as they defended a low score but need to get their length right on this batting-friendly surface against a strong Bengal batting lineup.

Abhimanyu Easwaran is a key player in this side at the top. He is among the top-scorers for Bengal in the domestic circuit and he’s got off to a great start in VJT 2023-24 with an unbeaten fifty in the Round 1 match.
His opening partner Abhishek Porel is another promising batsman who couldn’t get going after some attacking strokes early on in the chase. However, he will also be one to watch out for in this side.
The bowling attack features Ishan Pore, Akash Deep, and Shahbaz Ahmed, all match-winning players in their own right. It is a strong overall side with the skipper Sudip Kumar Gharami also looking in fine touch at number 3.
Bengal is all set to pose a tough challenge to Bardoa on a batting-friendly wicket at Brabourne and we reckon it will be a neck-and-neck contest between the two teams.
Abhimanyu Easwaran, Abhishek Porel (wk), Sudip Kumar Gharami (c), Anustup Majumdar, Ritwik Chowdhury, Karan Lal, Shahbaz Ahmed, Sakshaim Chaudhary, Pradipta Pramanik, Aksah Deep, Ishan Porel
Historically it has been a balanced pitch with enough help on offer for the bowlers. However, looking at the recent game here, it looked like a belter of a pitch that offered good bounce and pace allowing batters to time the ball effectively. The weather will be mostly cloudy with a high of 34 degrees Celsius.
Baroda and Bengal will lock horns at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The average 1st innings score in one-day internationals here is 209 runs. However, a match-winning total on this ground should be somewhere around 290-320 runs. Both teams have a strong bowling attack and they might just be able to defend something slightly less as well.
Though the team batting first has won more matches in ODIs at this venue, looking at the current pitch conditions, we reckon chasing a target will be a more effective strategy in this match.
A lot depends on the pitch condition on the match day. If it is a dry surface it may not be great for batting first and will allow the chasing team an advantage in the game. Considering the bowling strength of both teams we reckon the toss may not be a huge decisive factor. All things considered, Bengal seems to have an edge in the contest and will start as favorites in our match prediction.
