Bet NowThe match number 19 is between the table-toppers Guyana Amazon Warriors and the team which is trying push them to the top half mid-way in this tournament, Barbados Tridents. This is their second meeting in this tournament, Warriors bossing the first game easily.
In the last game, Tridents were asked to bat first by the St Lucia Zouks. Tridents openers had sighters in the first 2 overs and started to cut loose from the third over as they scored 21 runs with 2 boundaries and 2 sixes. Greaves had more strike and made full use of it taking his team to 63/0 by the end of the powerplay. Charles was not getting the bulk of the strike as he perished to McCoy for a 19-ball 28. Justin Greaves reached his fifty on debut and soon fell to an excellent take from Grandhomme off Cornwall. Duminy and Carter rotated strikes and the scoreboard read 105/2 by the end of 14 overs, platform well set for the finishers to come. Carter started the attack as he took on the spinners with 3 monstrous sixes of Ahmed and Cornwall. He hit one more of McCoy and got out the next ball for 30 runs. Duminy looked at bay in his run a ball 18 as he followed Carter to the hut. Some lower-order hitting from Nurse and Holder took the score past 170. The chase was action-packed with 2 boundaries and the wicket of Cornwall of the next ball. Soon Ingram was dismissed in the next over by Holder. Tridents were bossing the game as they removed Kavem Hodge in the third over. CDG went berserk as 20 came from 9 balls. Holder bowled Fletcher and summed up the powerplay with 48/4. Carter flew in the air to take a blinder to send the skipper Sammy back and continued his brilliance with the run out of CDG. With their main hope gone the match soon concluded in 15 overs and with only Viljoen power-hitting, they crossed the 100 run mark.
The Warriors asked to bat against Jamaica Tallawahs in their previous game, lost Hemraj early for a duck. Hetmyer scored 17 off the 4th over and he was in full throttle. Warriors scored 52 in powerplay and 42 coming from Hetmyer. King came in to groove as he attacked Jamaica's trump card Zahir Khan. Hetmyer’s heroics were cut short by Dwayne Smith. King was too serious on the spinners as he reached his fifty by hitting the third maximum as he perished after hitting one more for a 37-ball 59. Malik and Pooran continued the assault as they reached 165 in 16 overs. They were just toying with the hapless bowling as Malik reached his fifty. With Rutherford adding some crucial blows they raced past 200 run mark to set a target of 218. The spin combo Green and Tahir reaped rewards with the big wicket of Gayle. Tahir picked one more in the powerplay with the wicket of Walton. Qasis Ahmed joined his senior pros with the wicket of a worker as the score read 51/4 by 8 overs. Russel was looking to make something incredible with his power-hitting as rocketed to 40 off 19. The game was ideally sealed with the wicket of Phillips as Keemo Paul ran across the Tallawahs with 3 wickets in one over. Match officially ended by 18th over and the winning margin was huge for the Warriors.
The Tridents have two wins from three matches and they have the momentum by their side. With Hales back to England, Greaves has just cemented his place for the rest of the season. Finally, Holder found some partner in the powerplay as the pair took four wickets. Carter gave the impetus in the middle of the innings and with his fielding, he is a complete package and was deservedly man of the match. They need to continue this to have any chances against the number 1 team.
Key Players:
Justin Greaves: The Right-hander had the spotlight on him with his 45 ball 57. He took full control of the powerplay and will look to give the same kind of start again.
Jonathan Carter: What a brilliant game he had for the Tridents. He was the showman with his 4 sixes and two run-outs. Hope he will get few more overs to show his full skill set.
