Tournament: Bangladesh Premier League 2020 | Format: T20 | Venue: Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, Bangladesh | Toss: To Bowl
Bet NowIt’s early days in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and both Cumilla Warriors and Rangpur Rangers have played two games each so far. The Warriors have won one game and lost one while the Rangers have lost both their games so far. And this is the return fixture as the two teams faced off in the second game of the tournament.
The Comilla Warriors started with a bang. They humbled the Rangpur Rangers by 105 runs. They were in trouble in that game before skipper Dasun Shanaka’s blitz at the death propelled them to 173 and the bowlers defended it with ease, dismissing the opposition for a mere 68. In the second game, they conceded 180 and fell 20 runs short against Dhaka Platoon.
On the other hand, the Rangpur Rangers have been outplayed in two successive games. They squandered a good opportunity in the first game as they had the Comilla Warriors down at 124/7 after 18 overs. Since then, nothing has gone right for the Rangers. They were shot out for 68 before they suffered another batting failure against Chattogram Challengers.
The Comilla Warriors batting hasn’t really lived up to expectations. The likes of Soumya Sarkar and Dawid Malan have looked good but have thrown away starts. They have 61 and 65 runs from two matches respectively but have failed to kick on and get big scores. Dasun Shanaka’s fine striking in the first game helped the team get to an above-par score. He scored an unbeaten 75 before scoring a duck in the second game. Sabbir Rahman hasn’t shown great signs of form in the first two games. But the Warriors will expect more from their experienced Bangladesh player.
With the ball, it’s Sarkar who is leading the wicket charts. He has four wickets from two games but has been on the expensive side. Mujeeb Ur Rahman may have picked up only two wickets but he’s bowled really well and has an economy of just 3.14. Al-Amin Hossain and Sunzamul Islam have shown decent form and will be hoping to continue the good work.

The Rangpur Rangers made four changes to the XI after their opening loss. But things didn’t really change a lot. The batting has been dismal for them for two games in a row.
In the first game, only three batters went into double figures while in the second, only two went past 20. Mohammad Naim was the top-scorer in both games. He made 17 in the first game before driving the innings in the second game by scoring a fine 78, which helped the team get to 157. Skipper Mohammad Nabi looked good in the last game as he scored a 12-ball 21 but failed to convert his start. The likes of Mohammad Shahzad, Tom Abell, and Lewis Gregory need to stand up and deliver.
However, Gregory has done well with the ball. He’s picked up four wickets which is the most by any Rangpur Rangers bowler so far this season. Taskin Ahmed has been very disappointing and has conceded runs at 12.33 runs an over. Mustafizur Rahman has picked up a couple of wickets but has been expensive as well. The Rangpur Rangers haven’t started the tournament well and need to pull up their socks quickly.

The pitch at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram is expected to be a pretty good one to bat on. Teams have got 180+ batting first at this venue and hence, it may well be a high-scoring game. The weather is all clear for cricket as it is predicted to be sunny throughout the day.
After Dhaka, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) action moves to Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram for the second leg. It will host 12 games in a row. As many as 11 games were played here last year as well. Thus, it is a regular venue for the BPL and also, international cricket.
In the last 10 years, teams batting first have enjoyed more success. Even last year, teams defending totals won more. However, this season, teams chasing have had more victories in the BPL and it won’t be surprising if the team winning the toss, opts to bowl first.
After just two games each, it’s tough to predict who will come out on top. For the moment, it looks like the Comilla Warriors have the upper hand. The Rangpur Rangers have lost both their games convincingly and maybe down on confidence. Comilla Warriors also lost their last game but are in better stead and will go into this game as slight favorites.
