It is the 3rd game of the Lanka Premier League 2021, and the Colombo Stars would take on the Galle Gladiators. The Gladiators have made a strong start to the season winning their first game against the Jaffna Kings and they would look to drive things forward from here. The Colombo Stars have a very strong outfit and they had topped the points table last year and shall look to repeat the same magic. 

The Galle Gladiators’ top order performed poorly in the last game, and this is one thing that would be worrying the side here. The Colombo Kings are known to have one of the most powerful batting line-ups and they would be raring to go and perform. We should have a close game on our hands taking the strengths of the two teams into account.

Angelo Matthews had led a good campaign last year where his side had topped the points table in the group stages only to lose in the semifinals. It was a setback for the side and they would look to overcome that here. Matthew is leading a powerful batting line-up this season and he would like to see his players strike form in this game and get their first points of the season. 

They have a powerful opening combination in Tom Banton and Kusal Perara and these players would like to provide a good start in this game. Chris Gayle has shown good form during the T10 league and makes this middle order strong with Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Matthews. In Sherfane Rutherford and Dhananjaya de Silva, the side has good finishers. 

Dushmantha Chameera and Seekkuge Prasanna will have to strike early as the Gladiators have already shown their batting strengths in the tournament. Akila Dhanajaya has an important role to play here along with Lakshan Sandakan and needs to make good use of these conditions. In Rutherford, de Silva, and Gayle the side has good variety in its attack heading into the game.

Galle Gladiators Preview

Bhanuka Rajapaksa would be happy with the start his side has received in the tournament. It was a good show from the team in their last game against the Jaffna Stallions where they won by 54 runs. This win would add to their confidence after the poor start last season. They meet an even stronger side here and Rajapaksa would want to see his players drive the momentum forward. 

The side would expect to see a better start in this game from Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis as they went out cheaply in the last game. Mohammad Hafeez and Ben Dunk also need to convert their starts which they failed to do in the last game. Rajapaksa and Samit Patel played good knocks down the order and along with Isuru Udana and Lahiru Maudshanka they have good firepower to this line-up. 

Their bowlers put up a great show in the last game with Hafeez and Patel stealing the show with their good show in the middle overs. The side would need a good start from Isuru Udana and Nuwan Thushara in this game. Noor Ahmed, Maudshanka and Pulina Tharanga add good variety to this attack and the side would like them to deliver their best in this game.

The skies over Colombo would be partly cloudy on December 6 but the surface here would be good to bat on. The ball would come to the bat nicely and allow batsmen to play their strokes. Slow bowlers would do well on this track and the side batting first must have 170 runs on the board to win the game.

Venue Details

In the past, we have seen batsmen enjoy at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The fast outfield and the flat surface allow lots of scoring opportunities for the batsmen. It is a tough venue for the fast bowlers with negligible assistance for them. However, we have seen spinners do well here as the ball can turn sharply and surprise the batsmen.
