The competition in CSA T20 Challenge 2019 is heating up and in the 13th game of the season would see the Cape Cobras take in the Knights at their home ground Newlands, Cape Town. The Cape Cobras are in great form and have won three out of their four games and are currently sitting on the top of the points table. The Knights on the other hand are going through a rough patch and are yet to register a win in the season.

Cape Cobras have a great record against the Knights and have defeated them in the last nine out of ten games. The Knights would need to play out of their skins to register a win against the Cobras at Newlands where they have lost all their six games in the past.

Cape Cobras Preview

Rory Kleinveldt would have cherished the win over Dolphins in the last game. It was a closely fought game where the Cape Cobras held their nerves at the last moment to win it. Sitting at the top of the points table they are a confident lot and the skipper would expect the same kind of performance from his side in the next game.

It was a team effort while batting where Hashim Amla, Kyle Verreynne, Aviwe Mgijima and George Linde chipped in with important contributions to put up a sizable total for the side in the game. Janneman Malan has been in good form and this adds to the strength of the side. Vernon Philander and Rory Kleinveldt also did well batting in the lower order which will make them a confident unit.

Rory Kleinveldt was brilliant with the ball and conceded only 9 runs in his four overs. George Linde and Vernon Philander also bowled well in the last game. With someone like Nkululeko Serame in the mix the side would expect to do well in the next game.

Cape Cobras Predicted Playing XI:

Hashim Amla, Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt (c), Dane Paterson, Aviwe Mgijima, George Linde, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Tladi Bokako, Nkululeko Serame, Janneman Malan, David Bedingham

Cape Cobras Actual Playing XI:

George Linde, Nkululeko Serame, David Bedingham, Rory Kleinveldt, Hashim Amla, Janneman Malan, JF Smith, Aviwe Mgijima, T Bokako, Vernon Philander, Kyle Verreynne

Knights Preview

Petrus van Biljon would have been unhappy with their last game against the Titans seeing no result due to rain. He would have felt his side had done well when the rains halted the game. With no wins so far in the season it has become a huge challenge for the side going into the next game. They will need to win it to stay alive for the rest of the season.

In terms of their batting only Andries Gous, Grant Mokoena and Raynard van Tonder have done well in the season as the rest of the batting has failed to impress. Patrick Kruger and skipper Petrus van Biljon’s form is giving headaches to the side. These two play an important role in the middle order and will need to do well in the next game.

Gerald Coetzee and Ryan McLaren bowled well in the game against the Titans and would carry that confidence to the next game. Ottniel Baartman playing his first game of the season also did well. But there was little support from the others and the team would expect to see better performance from Shadley van Schalkwyk and Eddie Leie in the next game.

Knights Predicted Playing XI:

Ryan McLaren, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Eddie Leie, Petrus van Biljon (c), Grant Mokoena, Tshepo Ntuli , Patrick Kruger, Andries Gous (wk), Ottniel Baartman, Raynard van Tonder, Gerald Coetzee

Knights Actual Playing XI:

Grant Mokoena, Gerald Coetzee, Raynard van Tonder, Eddie Leie, Shadley van Schalkwyk, T Ntuli, AGS Gous, PJ van Biljon, Ottneil Baartman, Ryan McLaren, Patrick Kruger

Weather Conditions

There are predictions for light showers at Cape Town on the 17th of April. The pitch is expected to play well as it did in the last game. There was something for the bowlers early on and it got better as the game progressed. Any score of around 160 runs would be a good one on this surface.

Venue

Newlands, Cape Town has historically assisted the fast bowlers as they are able to derive movement in the air along with that from the surface. Batsmen also enjoy batting on this surface as the ball comes on to the bat easily and allows for stroke making and this makes the ground a good venue for T20 cricket.

Toss: To Bowl

The track at Cape Town assists the fast bowlers early on and most captains like to exploit this opportunity. With rain having been a factor in this tournament so far the side batting second has advantage in case of rains and the skipper who wins the toss here would like to bowl.

Cape Cobras come into this game with two back to back wins and have done well in the season so far. They are sitting on the top of the points table with three wins and one loss. Knights by contrast are in deep trouble and haven’t been able to win a game though two of their games have been washed away. Going by the form the two sides are in Cape Cobras would definitely start as favorites in the next game.
