The 7th game of the CSA T20 Challenge 2019 will see hosts Cape Cobras take on Warriors at their home ground Boland Park, Paarl. Both the sides have played two games so far and won one each. While Cape Cobras lost out against the Titans in their last game Warriors come into this game having seen their last game against the Knights being washed out due to rain. 

In the previous three games that the sides played at Boland Park Cape Cobras emerged victorious on all occasions. The home side also has a great record against the Warriors in this format and it would be interesting to see if the visitors are able to defy history in the next game.

Cape Cobras Preview

Rory Kleinveldt’s side suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Titans in the last game. This after the side had started the season with a win against the Lions. They were rusty in the last game both with their batting and bowling and would be looking to improve upon their performance in the next game against Warriors. 

Hashim Amla and David Bedingham missed out in the last game which hurt the performance of the side. Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne continued with his good form in the last game as well but opener Janneman Malan failed to push up the scoring rate causing trouble for the team. Simon Khomari and Vernon Philander did well in finishing the game and would be looking to repeat the same performance in the next game.  

The bowlers had a bad day in the office in the last game with only Vernon Philander doing well. Rory Kleinveldt, Dane Paterson and George Linde were unable to apply pressure on the opponents and will need to do so in the upcoming game.

Warriors Preview

After winning the first game against the Titans it was a complete wash out in their last game against the Knights. Skipper JJ Smuts would have been unhappy as they would have relished the opportunity given the form his side is in. In the next game against Cape Cobras he would be looking for a win given the form his side showed in the first game. 

It was their openers Matthew Breetzke and Gihahn Cloete who took the side home in the last game without the loss of any wicket making the batting look extremely strong. The middle order has some great players in the form of JJ Smuts, Marco Marais, Sinethemba Qeshile and Lesiba Ngoepe. All these players have good hitting abilities and they would be looking to make the opportunity count in the next game. 

The side would have to work on its bowling in the next game as they had a bad day against the Titans where they ended up conceding more than 200 runs. Lutho Sipamla and Smuts did well in the last game but the side would expect to see better show from the likes of Sisanda Magala and Andrew Birch who are two of their main bowlers.

Weather Conditions

There is forecast for slight rain at Boland Park on 12th of April and this might lead to another rain interrupted game. The amount of moisture on this surface won’t make it very easy to bat on. The pitch has always assisted the fast bowlers and any side batting first on this wicket would be happy with a score of around 160 runs. 

Venue

The wicket at Boland Park, Paarl offers good assistance to the bowlers and hence it isn’t a typical stand and deliver kind of T20 wicket. Batsmen have to work their way on this wicket and when they get set in they can score runs. Fast bowlers enjoy bowling on this surface with nice seam and carry.

The pitch at Boland Park, Paarl has historically assisted fast bowlers and there is always some juice on the track which the side bowling first can exploit. The pitch is expected to get better as the game progresses and the captain winning the toss would like to have a bowl at this ground first.
