The stage is set for the final of Bangladesh Premier League 2019!

32 days and 45 games later we have our two finalists. Three time title winners Dhaka Dynamites (two wins as Dhaka Gladiators) would be taking on the Comilla Victorians at the big final at Dhaka. For Comilla Victorians who won the title back in 2015 it will be another short a glory while the Dynamites would want to prevent a rerun of last year’s final where they bowed down to Rangpur Riders. 

In the league stage of the tournament Comilla Victorians emerged as winners in both the games against Dhaka Dynamites by narrow margins. It will be interesting to see whether Dhaka Dynamites are able to win the game that matters or Victorians walk away with their next title.

Comilla Victorians Preview

Imrul Kayes’ team has had a great season where they have rightfully earned their place in the finals winning eight of their twelve games. They stormed into the finals defeating Rangpur Riders comfortably and the skipper would want his side to maintain the same momentum for the finals. 

Tamin Iqbal and Evin Lews form a great opening pair and they showed that against the riders. Anamul Haque and Shamsur Rahman are also doing well and played with responsibility in the last game. But the depth in their batting where they have Imrul Kayes, Shahid Afridi and Thisara Perera towards the end makes them such a good batting unit that it can scare the opposition. 

The bowlers did a great job in the last game. Sanjit Saha along with Mahedi Hasan and Shahid Afridi didn’t allow their opponents to score runs easily and restricted them to a below par level. With Wahab Riaz and Mahedi Hasan in the side they have a good bowling attack to challenge their opponents and win the next game.

Dhaka Dynamites Preview

They started the tournament with a bang and have made it to the finals in the same manner. There was a dull period for the side in between but Shakib Al Hasan would take confidence from their win against Rangpur Riders in the 2nd Qualifier and start on a positive note in the next game. 

The team batted well chasing a tricky score in a high pressure game. Sunil Narine made a small but significant contribution after the side had lost Upul Tharanga early. Rony Talukdar and Shakib batted well but it was heroics from Andre Russell who hit five sixes that won the game. With Kieron Pollard and Nurul Hasan in the batting line-up they have the arsenal to threaten the Comilla Victorian bowlers. 

Dynamites bowled exceptionally well in the last game especially Rubel Hossain who broke the back of Rangpur Riders. Sunil Narine bowled a miserly spell though he didn't pick up any wickets. Andre Russell and Shakib played their part well and the bowlers would be looking forward to taking the same momentum into the all-important final.

Weather Conditions

The pitch has slowed done a bit since it is the end of the season. While it still remains a great track for batting the ball shall stop a bit on the batsmen occasionally. The weather is likely to remain slightly overcast during the game which may cheer up fast bowlers on both the camps in what is expected to be great game. 

Venue

The pitch at Shere Bangla National Stadium has been favoring the batsmen who are playing it bold. We have already witnessed several high scoring encounters at this ground this season. Spinners have also done well at this ground when dew hasn’t played spoilsport while fast bowlers who are willing to pitch the ball up have also got decent bargain from the pitch.

Toss: To Bowl

It will be an intense game and ideally a team should set up a score on the board and defend it. But in all the evening games so far at the venue teams have preferred to bowl first as spinners find it difficult to grip the ball once dew sets in. Both sides have an army of spinners and would like bowl first and restrict the opponents to a small total.
