Indian Premier League 2021 resumes after a 4-month break due to Covid outbreak in India. The 31st game would see the Chennai Super Kings take on defending champions Mumbai Indians. The Super Kings had done well in India, and they are comfortably placed at the second spot on the points table. Mumbai Indians is in the 4th spot after couple of ordinary performances. 

Mumbai Indians have enjoyed a good record against Chennai and have won the last eight out of ten games between the two teams. They had defeated CSK in the earlier league game this season and the side would like to draw inspiration from that win. It will be interesting to see if the Chennai Super Kings are able to undo this poor record and win this game.

Chennai Super Kings Preview

MS Dhoni’s side had a good tournament in its earlier leg in India where the side won five out of the seven games. However, they had lost to the Mumbai Indians in their previous game and Dhoni would want to even it out here. With Sam Curran missing, and Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo doubtful for this game, it will be interesting to see how CSK get their balance right. 

Rituraj Gaikwad didn’t enjoy great success in India, and he would have to provide the side with a good start batting with Robin Uthappa. The middle order is strong for the side with Moeen Ali in good form and he would look to set up partnerships with Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina. The side has a killer lower middle order and runs would be expected in this game from Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur. 

The side would have to get early wickets to put the Mumbai’s strong batting on backfoot and the new ball pair of Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazelwood shall have to do the damage. Imran Tahir and Jadeja are an experienced pair, and the side would like them to keep the opposition quiet. Thakur and Ali complete a good bowling attack for the side.

Mumbai Indians Preview

The defending champions put up a mediocre show in India and Rohit Sharma would like the side to get back its mojo with a strong show here. They have enjoyed a good record against the Chennai Super Kings in the past and Sharma would look to continue that here. A win in this game would take them to the 3rd position on the points table and the Mumbai skipper would be aiming for that. 

They have a strong opening pair in Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav and the pair shall aim to provide a good start. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard add good firepower to the middle order, and they would look to build good partnerships in this game. The side would also expect fireworks from Krunal Pandya and James Neesham down the order. 

Trent Boult and Dhawal Kulkarni didn’t enjoy great run in India and the pair would look to get early breakthroughs for the side in this game. Jasprit Bumrah has enjoyed good form in recent games and shall look to trouble the Super Kings in middle overs with Rahul Chahar. Pollard, Krunal Pandya and Neesham add variety to this attack.
