The 50th game of the Indian Premier League 2021 between the Delhi Capitals and the Chennai Super Kings would have little consequences for the prospects of the side with both sides having made it to the playoffs. Delhi Capitals come into this game after a close win against Mumbai Indians while the Chennai Super Kings went down against the Rajasthan Royals, their first loss in UAE.
Delhi Capitals had won the earlier game against the Chennai Super Kings and haven’t lost to them in the last three games. This is likely to add confidence in their camp. The side winning this game would gain momentum ahead of the playoffs and considering the form in the two camps, we expect this to be a cracker of a contest.
Rishabh Pant’s side has already made it to the next round after their 4-wicket win against the Mumbai Indians. It was a close game, but the team managed to hold on to its nerves while chasing the score to defeat the defending champions. They had won the earlier game of the season against Chennai and Pant would want his players to make it two in two this year.
Prithvi Shaw has struggled in the last few games and the side would like to see runs from him along with his in-form partner Shikhar Dhawan. Pant has done well in the middle order and needs to set up partnerships with Shreyas Iyer and Steven Smith. They have good firepower to follow with Axar Patel, Shimron Hetmyer, and Ravichandran Ashwin being powerful strikers of the ball.
It was a superb performance from their bowlers in the last game. Anrich Nortje and Avesh Khan have enjoyed good form in the last few games, and they would aim to strike against Chennai’s in-form top order. Kagiso Rabada would have to work on his economy rate. In Patel and Ashwin the side has two experienced spinners to make good use of the conditions.
Top Batsman – Shikhar Dhawan
Top Bowler – Anrich Nortje

MS Dhoni’s side suffered its first loss in UAE this season as the side went down against Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets. The loss would have hurt Dhoni as his side failed to defend 189 runs on the board. It was a bit of complacency that cost them the game. They had lost against the Delhi Capitals earlier and Dhoni would like to even it out here.
Ruturaj Gaikwad would be confident after his hundred in the last game and he would look to offer a good start in the company of Faf du Plessis. In the middle order, the side has good strength in Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali, and Ambati Rayudu. Down the order, they have good hitters of the ball in Dhoni, Sam Curran, and Ravindra Jadeja and this adds to the side’s batting strengths.
The side failed to defend a big total in the last game, and this would affect their confidence. Sam Curran and Josh Hazlewood were expensive in the last game, and they would have to come up with a better show here. KM Asif, Shardul Thakur, and Moeen Ali also leaked runs and the side would look for a better show from them against the strong batting line-up that Delhi Capitals have.

It would be hot and humid in Dubai on October 04, and we expect to see a flat surface as we have seen in earlier games. The ball is expected to come onto the bat nicely. Bowlers are likely to find the conditions challenging and the side batting first would need 180 runs on the board to feel safe.
Dubai International Cricket Stadium has a large outfield, but the wicket is flat here and this allows batsmen to score lots of runs. We have seen big scores and chases at this venue. Fast bowlers find the conditions difficult at this venue and need to make good use of their variations to succeed. Spinners have enjoyed the conditions and picked many wickets.
The last four games played at this ground have seen teams chase down big total easily on three occasions. The wicket here eases as the game progresses and setting up totals on this surface is a challenge. The side winning the toss should have little hesitation in opting to bowl first.
It will be a battle of bragging rights for the two sides with the winner moving to the top of the table. Both the sides have done well so far in UAE with Chennai suffering their first loss of the season since the tournament resumed in UAE. The side would have to work out on its bowling to win this game. Delhi Capitals would carry their momentum and take inspiration from their good record against Chennai in recent years. It would be a close game, but the Delhi Capitals would find their foot in front.
