Tournament: Indian Premier League 2021 | Format: T20 | Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE | Toss: To Bowl
Bet NowThe league games are done, and we are into the 1st Qualifier of the Indian Premier League 2021. Table-toppers Delhi Capitals would be up against former champions Chennai Super Kings in this game. Interestingly both sides come here with losses. While the Capitals lost a thriller against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Super Kings went down against Punjab Kings in their last game.
Delhi Capitals have enjoyed a good record against the Chennai Super Kings in the last two seasons winning all the four games between the two sides. Chennai would be under pressure to perform after suffering three consecutive losses before this game. But the Super Kings are known to be tough fighters, and this would make this contest all the more interesting.
But for the loss against the Royal Challengers Bangalore off the last ball in their final league game, Rishabh Pant would be proud of the campaign he has led. The side has finished on the top of the points table for the first time and has produced great performances. They have defeated Chennai Super Kings in both the league games, and this would add to the side’s confidence. Pant would be looking to exploit CSK’s recent woes and book their place in the final.
Prithvi Shaw has gained form which is welcome news for the side and along with Shikhar Dhawan, he shall look to provide the side with a great start here with Dhawan already having made 500+ runs. The middle-order is formidable with Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Shimron Hetmyer being good stroke players and all three have made runs. The side would also look for quick runs from Ripal Patel, Axar Patel, and Ravichandran Ashwin in this important game.
Their bowlers would have to come out of the loss in the last game and the side would expect early wickets from Anrich Nortje and Avesh Khan who have bowled superbly. Axar Patel and Kagiso Rabada must deliver as they have been short of form in the last few games. The side would also need a strong show from Ashwin, and he would be expected to make good use of his experience.
Top Batsman – Shikhar Dhawan
Top Bowler – Anrich Nortje

MS Dhoni would be upset with the build-up to this game. The side comes here with three straight losses, and this is something the skipper would be worried about. They have batted poorly in the last two games and went down against the Punjab Kings by 6 wickets in their final league match. Dhoni who is a veteran of many battles would be aware of Delhi’s momentum and shall need his players to deliver a good show here.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis have been in brilliant form and the side would hope to see a good show from the pair opening the batting. It is the middle order that is worrying the side and the trio of Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali, and Ambati Rayudu must stand up. Dhoni is struggling with his scoring rate and needs to add to the score with Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja who are good hitters of the ball.
Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazlewood would have a tough challenge on their hands as the Delhi Capitals have displayed good form with the bat. The duo would need to get early wickets. Bravo has been the go-to man for the skipper, and he would have an important role to play in this game. In Moeen Ali, Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur the side has good variety in the attack for the big game.
Top Batsman – Faf du Plessis
Top Bowler – Dwayne Bravo

It would be hot and humid in Dubai on October 10. The surface is expected to be a flat one as we have seen in the earlier games. Bowlers would have little margin for error in this game. Given the pressure of a playoff game, the side batting first would be happy surpassing a score of 170 runs on this wicket.
Dubai International Cricket Stadium has a flat surface and a fast outfield. We have seen several high-scoring games here in the past as batsmen enjoy these conditions with the ball coming onto the bat nicely. There is little on this track for the fast bowlers but spinners have done well given the nature of the track.
In the 11 games played at this venue, this season only thrice has the side won the game batting first. The wicket here has been great, and sides have comfortably chased down good totals. There is assistance for the bowlers early in the game. The side winning the toss here should have no hesitation in batting first.
It will be an uphill challenge for the Chennai Super Kings. They have lost twice against the Capitals and come here with three losses in a row. Their batsmen have looked short on confidence and the side needs to make improvements in this area to win the game. Delhi Capitals have enjoyed a good run so far and their batsmen have been winning games for the side and this would make them favorites in this game.
