It one of the most keenly awaited contests in the Indian Premier League 2021 the Delhi Capitals would be up against the defending champions Mumbai Indians. The Delhi Capitals registered an impressive win in the last game against the Punjab Kings while Mumbai Indians snatched a win from the jaws of defeat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to improve their position on the points table.
Delhi Capitals have not done well against Mumbai Indians where they have lost the last five games between the two sides. This would be playing on their minds as Mumbai has always found a way to defeat them. But this young side has shown great promise over the last two seasons and it would be interesting to see if they are able to end their losing run in this game.
Rishabh Pant would be highly impressed with the way his side played in the last game. While they did leak runs and allowed Punjab Kings to put up a big total on the board, the side was clinical in the run chase winning the game by 6 wickets in the end. They have a big challenge at hand given their poor record against Mumbai and Pant would want his players to put up a stiff challenge in this game.
Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw are in great form especially Dhawan who is playing brilliantly at the moment. They will need to take on the top quality attack that Mumbai have. In Steven Smith, Pant and Marcus Stoinis they have a high quality middle order. Runs would also be expected from Lalit Yadav and Chris Woakes towards the end of the innings.
Lukman Meriwala and Chris Woakes were expensive in the last game and the side would look for a better start from them in this game. Kagiso Rabada will have to bowl better lines in this game as he hasn’t looked at his best so far. Ravichandran Ashwin, Yadav and Avesh Khan must focus on keeping the scoring rate under check given the kind of firepower Mumbai have in their batting.

Rohit Sharma’s side has hit form after losing the first game of the season. The defending champions have won their last two games and defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs in the last game. It was a good effort by their bowlers against Sunrisers where they managed to defend a small total successfully towards the end. Rohit would be aware of Delhi Capitals’ form and expect a good effort from his players here.
Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock played well in the last game and the side would need them to do well against the good new ball attack that Delhi have. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan form a formidable middle order and the side would look for big hits from them in this game. With Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard down the order their batting has all the bases covered.
Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah have done well so far in the season and shall be looking to strike with the new ball given Delhi’s strength at the top. Rahul Chahar bowled a match winning spell in the last game and similar efforts would be expected from him in this game. With Adam Milne, Krunal and Pollard to support the bowling attack is looking good at the moment.

The skies over Chennai would be mostly clear during the game on April 20 and the conditions would be hot and humid. Batsmen have done well in the games played so far where we have seen few high scoring encounters. The side batting first in this game would have to target a score in excess of 180 runs to feel comfortable.
MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai is a good venue as it aids both the bowlers and the batsmen, a rarity on Indian surfaces. Batsmen have to play to the merit of the ball as fast bowlers do get some early assistance from the surface. The track is slow and hence spinners have always enjoyed bowling on this surface.
In the six games that have been played here this season only once has a side managed to win a game chasing the score. The track has been a good one to bat on early on in the innings and the side that wins the toss in this game would be look to bat first and put up a big score on the board.
Delhi Capitals have done well so far in the season but they have a big mental battle on their hands in this game. They will have to overcome their poor show against Mumbai Indians in the past and expect good show from their bowlers who haven’t done well. Mumbai Indians look stronger on both the departments of the game and this would make them favorites here.
