Delhi Capitals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 16 runs

DC have the chance to make a step closer to the playoffs!

  • Delhi Capitals are close to placing themselves in the round of the playoffs. They attained the top position for a while before Chennai could reaffirm their righteous place.
  • After the initial debacle, RCB is elated with their recent matches’ results as they have won 4 out of last 5 games.
  • Head to head – out of 23 matches played between DC and RCB, DC have won 7 while RCB has won 15, and 1 match was without a result. Delhi Capitals have the psychological advantage of winning their earlier encounter against RCB at Bengaluru.

Our prediction is that Delhi Capitals will beat Royal Challengers Bangalore to remain in top-two.

Since 2012, first time DC is expected to reach the playoffs. With 14 points in 11 games of IPL 2019, they positioned themselves quite well to reach the qualifier. Most of DC’s games are won by team efforts and their ballers and batsmen have been complementing each-others. The last match against RR, their key batsmen pulled off  192 run chase, while in the match against KXIP, Lamichhane, Rabada and Patel shared 7 wickets to defend the total of 163. DC is one of the strong contenders not only to reach the playoffs but also to win the title. They are now playing against RCB at home.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have gone through the disastrous season with first six consecutive losses. Not once they could upgrade their position and linger at the bottom of the points table. But now they have got 3 consecutive wins after defeating KKR, CSK and KXIP. The inclusion of Dale Steyn was too late and now due to the shoulder injury, he left RCB with a void. Despite the superb form of de Villiers, it won’t be easy for RCB to beat the third-ranked team, playing on a slow Delhi pitch.

Delhi Capitals Preview

DC started IPL 2019 well by beating Mumbai Indians by 37 runs. After the loss against CSK, they stunned KKR in the super-over at home. After losing to KXIP and SRH, they won 3 consecutive matches while visiting Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad. They got their second success on home turf against KXIP after losing to Mumbai on the same ground.

Shikhar Dhawan is the top scorer for DC with his 401 runs in IPL 2019. Along with him, DC’s formidable batting line-up includes reliable Shreyas Iyer (331 runs), Rishabh Pant (336 runs) and Prithvi Shaw (262 runs).

They have equally good bowling unit with Kagiso Rabada who has 14 wickets in 11 matches, while Chris Morris took 12 wickets in just 8 matches. The mystery spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has taken 9 wickets. In their last match against RR, DC had chased down 192 runs thanks to sparkling 27 balls 54 by Dhawan and Pant’s explosive 36 balls 78. They are now playing at home with a much higher confidence level to defeat RCB.

Delhi Capitals Predicted Playing XI:

Shreyas Iyer (c), Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant (wk), Colin Ingram, Sherfane Rutherford, Chris Morris, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma

Delhi Capitals Actual Playing XI:

Colin Ingram, Sandeep Lamichhane, Shreyas Iyer, Amit Mishra, Sherfane Rutherford, Prithvi Shaw, Kagiso Rabada, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma

Royal Challengers Bangalore Preview

RCB is still at the 8th rank despite winning past three matches. This is the result of losing first six matches of the tournament. In the worst possible start, they lost to CSK after getting out for 70. They could have won the match against MI, but the controversial umpiring decision cost them the match. They collapsed in 131 runs in the match against SRH while chasing 231. The match against KKR was for RCB to win but Andrew Russell just snatched it. They took revenge by defeating KKR at Eden Gardens, and then they beat CSK and KXIP.

Kohli, de Villiers, Parthiv Patel, Moeen Ali, Y Chahal and outgoing Dale Steyn have been the bigger contributors for RCB in their wins. For RCB, de Villiers is the top scorer with 414 runs, followed by Kohli with 400. Patel amassed 326 while Ali has been quite helpful with the bat too. RCB’s main concern has been from the bowling department, where Chahal has taken 14 wickets but next best is Navdeep Saini with 8 wickets, that shows the gaps in bowling unit.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Predicted Playing XI:

Virat Kohli (c), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Moeen Ali, Akshdeep Nath, Marcus Stoinis, Washington Sundar, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Navdeep Saini

Royal Challengers Bangalore Actual Playing XI:

Marcus Stoinis, GR Singh Mann, Shivam Dube, Umesh Yadav, Virat Kohli, Heinrich Klaasen, YS Chahal, AB de Villiers, Washington Sundar, Parthiv Patel, NA Saini

Weather Conditions

The match will be played at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi. Kotla surface is not like the typical T20 pitches to make high scores. It’s crucial here to take time and get used to the pitch before going for big shots. At this ground, the highest and lowest totals in the T20Is are 202 and 120 runs. Here, the average first and second innings scores are 157 and 143. The highest total chased on this ground is 159 and the lowest defended score is 142.

Toss: To Bowl

Out of last five matches played here, 3 are won by the team batting second. The team winning the toss should look to field first to avoid the dew factor.

Head to head RCB looks stronger considering their 15 wins out of 23 matches, though their last encounter was won by Delhi Capitals. Overall Delhi’s batting and bowling unit look threatening. While Dale Steyn’s exit due to a shoulder injury is going to hurt the RCBs.

While RCB’s have nothing to lose, DC would want a win it to secure their place in the playoffs. Moreover, they would want to end the group round in top-two to enter the qualifier. Considering their current forms, we predict DC will beat RCB under home situations and enter the playoffs.
