TNPL has finally started after a lot of disturbances caused the the COVID-19 pandemic but weather gods seem to show no mercy on the league as the first two matches were washed away without result. Dindigul Dragons and Madurai Panthers kick-off the campaign against each other and they have a rivalry between them. Madurai Panthers defeated Dindigul Dragons in the 2018 finals to win while the Dragons hit back by ending the Panthers 2019 campaign in the qualifier 2. Both teams will look to get the better of the other in their opening match.

Dindigul Dragons Preview

Dindigul Dragons will be led by R Srinivasan this season.  Hari Nishanth and R Vivek are the experience players in the batting line-up with new comers Mokit Hariharan, S Arun, and Vishal Vaidya expected to form the middle order of the team. They have a new look batting line-up this season.

Their pace bowling attack looks in good stead with the likes of L Vignesh, R Suthesh, and V Lakshmanan.  Spin department has been their biggest strength with a host of players’ namely M Silambarasan, Aswin Crist, MS Sanjay, and Kishan kumar in the squad. They have a good mix of experienced and young players in their squad this year.

Hari Nishanth – Hari Nishanth had an excellent season as year scoring 322 runs at a strike rate of 120 with 4 fifties to his name. He has been one of the most consistent players in the Tamil Nadu circuit and will look to make a mark in this year too.

M Silambarasan – Silambarasan made a brilliant debut season last year with 14 wickets in the 10 matches at an economy rate of 6.5 RPO. He will look to trouble the batsmen with his left arm spin in favorable conditions this year too.

Madurai Panthers Preview

Mathurai Panthers have roped in NS Chaturvedi from the opposition camp and me his captain this year. KB Arun Karthik, J Kaushik, M Shajahan, and V Aditya will be their batting order for this year with all-rounders Ramalingam Rohit and J Subramanyan expected to improve their batting depth and balance.

They have a strong pace department with the likes of Ramalingam Rohit, Jaganathan Kaushik, Kiran Akash, and Abhishek Tanwar in the squad. R Mithun & A Srinivas are expected to slot in as the spin bowlers and Varun Chakravarthy might join the squad if his national commitments permit.

Arun Karthik – Arun Karthik is a veteran player in the Tamil Nadu circuit and has played matches at bigger leagues such as IPL. He scored 356 runs at a strike arte of 150 last year and we expect him to continue the same this season too.  

Kiran Akash – Kiran Akash has the ability to trouble the batsmen with seam movement with the new ball and he picked 17 wickets last season. He will look to continue his dominance over batsmen in power play especially.

Weather Conditions

Chennai has a wet weather for the last week with rain making it`s appearances especially during the evening.   The weather does not look good on match day with 60-70% chances of rain expected.

Venue Details

MA Chidambaram stadium has been traditionally a spinner friendly track where runs are hard to come by.  A hint of grass is available on the pitch and is aiding the seam bowlers to move the ball considerably in the recent matches. We expect the runs to be around 150-160 runs in this match.

Toss: To Bowl

The early moisture and hint of grass will make the ball swing and seam around early in the match. Both captains will look to take advantage of it by bowling first.
