It is the 27th game of Tamil Nadu Premier League, 2022 and the Dindigul Dragons would be taking on the Salem Spartans. Both sides are out of contention for a place in the next round and shall be looking to finish on a high. The Dragons lost against the Chepauk Super Gillies in the last game. The Spartans lost to the Ruby Trichy Warriors in a rain-reduced game.  

It has been a horrible season for the Spartans as the side hasn’t won a single game and they are down on confidence. Inconsistency has hurt Ravichandran Ashwin’s side and they are out of contention for a berth in the playoffs. The side sealed its fate with a 5- wicket loss against the Chepauk Super Gillies. They have big names on the side and Ashwin who is a veteran of many battles shall look to end the tournament with a win and give something for their fans to cheer about.  

K Vishal Vaidhya and Hari Nishanth shall look to set up a good opening wicket stand as their opponents have struggled with the ball. Ashwin is an experienced player at No. 3 and he needs to set up partnerships with RS Mokit Hariharan and Mani Bharathi. R Vivek played a great knock in the last game, and he would look to add quick runs with Karaparambil Monish in the final overs of the innings.  

Lakshminarayanan Vignesh and Rangaraj Suthesh have done well with the new ball, and they would aim to bowl tight spells in the game. Ashwin shall look to work his magic in this game and trouble the Spartans. VP Diran, M Silambarasan, and Karaparambil Monish are good bowlers, and they will look to complement their main bowlers in this game.

Salem Spartans Preview

It has been a miserable season for Murugan Ashwin’s side. They haven’t won a single game this year and the side would be down on confidence. They come here with a 4-run loss against the Ruby Trichy Warriors. Their batsmen and bowlers have all underperformed right since the start of the season. As the side takes the field for the last time this year, Ashwin would want to finish on a high.  

Gopinath and Akshay Srinivasan have struggled at the top and the side would need a strong show from them to be in a comfortable position. S Ganesh, Ravi Karthikeyan, and S Abishiek must build partnerships in the middle order as this has been the side’s biggest weakness. Down the order, they would expect to see runs from the bats of Daryl Ferrario and Lokesh Raj.  

The side would like to see a good start in the game from G Periyaswamy and Lokesh Raj as their opponents have good hitters of the ball. Murugan Ashwin will have to bring his experience to play in the game. S Boopalan and Rajendran Karthikeyan shall be expected to keep a check on the scoring and prevent the Dragons from running away with the game.

The skies over Salem would be cloudy on July 24. The wicket has been slow and low where it has been difficult for the batsmen to score runs. Bowlers have been able to trouble batsmen on this track. The side batting first in this game would be happy to have 160 runs which can be defended with disciplined bowling.

SCF Cricket Ground, Salem has short boundaries but the wicket here is slow which created doubts in the minds of batsmen. They need to build their innings patiently to do well at this venue. Fast bowlers must depend on their variations to do well but spinners have earned rewards on this surface as the ball turns sharply.
