It is the 25th game in the Vitality T20 Blast 2021 and the Derbyshire Falcons would be up against the Lancashire Lightning. The Falcons lost to the Birmingham Bears in the last game and have managed just one win from their three games so far while the Lancashire Lightning too suffered their first loss of the season losing to the Worcestershire Rapids.

Derbyshire Falcons’ record against Lancashire Lightning is uninspiring and they have managed to win just one game against them in the last four seasons. This would add to the pressure on their minds. The Lightning with their stronger batting line-up would be aiming for their third win of the season.

Derbyshire Preview

Billy Godleman’s side comes into this game after a 3-wicket loss against the Birmingham Bears. They batted poorly in the last game and their bowlers weren’t up to the mark. They have had a poor record against the Lancashire Lightning in the past and Godleman would want his side to change that with a win here.

Openers Luis Reece and Harry Came need to convert their starts which they have failed to do so far in the tournament. Runs would also be expected from Leus du Plooy, Matthew Critchley and Godleman in the middle order. In Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Brooke Guest they have good hitters of the ball down the order and shall have to come up with their contributions.

Logan van Beek and Michael Cohen were expensive in the last game and better show would be expected from them in this game. The side would also expect tight spells from the likes of George Scrimshaw and Prentice as they failed to keep the ball in the right areas. Critchley has to play the role of a fifth bowler well in this game.

Derbyshire Predicted Playing XI:

Billy Godleman (c), Luis Reece, Harry Came, Leus du Plooy, Matthew Critchley, Fynn Hudson-Prentice, Brooke Guest (wk), Matt McKiernan, Logan van Beek, Michael Cohen, George Scrimshaw

Lancashire Preview

It was a bad day at the office for Dane Vilas’ side in the last game against the Worcestershire Rapids. They batted poorly to put up only 132 runs on the board and lost the game by 8 wickets. The side has done well against Derbyshire in the past and Vilas would want his players to draw inspiration from those wins and bounce back in the tournament.

Liam Livingstone and Finn Allen would need to put up a good show at the top especially Livingstone who is a specialist in this format. They have a good middle order with Alex Davies, Jos Buttler and Dane Vilas in the side.  Steven Croft and Luke Wood can hit the ball making this line-up formidable.

Livingstone and Tom Bailey would need to strike early for the side and they have done well in previous games. The side would also need the likes of Luke Wood and Matthew Parkinson to bring their experience to good play here. With Croft, Danny Lamb and Tom Hartley in the side they have good options in the bowling department.

Lancashire Predicted Playing XI:

Dane Vilas (c), Liam Livingstone, Finn Allen, Alex Davies, Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Croft, Luke Wood, Danny Lamb, Tom Hartley, Matthew Parkinson, Tom Bailey

Weather Conditions

The skies over Derbyshire would see odd clouds on June 15 and we expect it to be a nice game of cricket. The bounce on this surface would be true and this would allow the batsmen to play their strokes easily.  A score of 170 runs would be a good total for the side that bats first in this game.

Venue Details

County Ground, Derby does offer some assistance to the fast bowlers at the start of the game. The true bounce and pace on the surface does allow the batsmen to play their strokes and we have seen high scoring games here. There isn’t much turn on offer for the spinners and it is a tough challenge for them bowling here.

Toss: To Bat

The wicket looked good for batting in the last game at the start and slowed down a bit towards the end. The side that wins the toss here would like to take advantage of it and opt for batting first with the aim of putting up a big score.

Derbyshire Falcons have lost two out of their three games so far and their bowling attack is struggling at the moment. They can’t afford another bat performance as they would be up against a very strong batting line-up. Lancashire Lightning has a very strong batting line-up with good hitters of the ball they would fancy batting on this small ground. It will be a close game but Lightning would start favorites.

Lancashire Lightning to win
