After two consecutive home games ended in a Draw, Derbyshire are desperate for a win. They need a win to move ahead in the points table and considering the opposition’s current form, this is Derbyshire’s best chance at winning. 

Suranga Lakmal came in for the last match against Gloucestershire and picked 3 for 77. Whereas Luis Reece got through the middle-order with regular breakthroughs. 

Leus du Plooy will be happy with the bowling performance as they’ve found more wicket-takers other than Henry Brooks. The right-arm fast Samuel Conners is another key bowler for Derbyshire.

They will be looking to attack Yorkshire from the get go. The opposition have had some really bad outings in recent matches. This is a great opportunity for Derbyshire to make the most of their vulnerabilities.

At the same time, they also need to improve on their own batting. While the skipper has been consistent at number 5, Derbyshire will need Haider Ali to deliver a good start at the top alongside Harry Came.

The two scored a 100+ runs opening stand in the very next game after their innings loss to Durham. But they were on the backfoot against Gloucestershire and this inconsistency could harm Derbyshire. Wayne Madsen and Brooke Guest are other key batters to watch out for in the Derbyshire lineup.

Yorkshire are coming here on the back of a loss. The bowlers couldn’t clean up the tail in their last outing against Durham and it was a very disappointing loss.

Jordan Thompson and Matthew Fisher were among the top wicket-takers but the lack of support from others allowed the opposition to get over the line. Dom Bess needs to find wickets for Yorkshire.

He’s been wicketless lately and for someone who’s played 14 Tests at the international stage, he’s not living up to the expectations. Another concern for Yorkshire is the inconsistency of their middle order. The likes of Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow are meant to add strength to the batting lineup.

While they did build a crucial partnership in the middle in their last match against Durham, overall, the two haven’t been in their best touch. In their match against Glamorgan, the batting collapsed and Yorkshire were bowled out for just 106 runs in the 1st innings.

Adam Lyth scored 174 opening for the side in the second innings as he led the team to a 400+ score. George Hill and Jordan Thompson were among others who scored a fifty in that innings. Hill scored another fifty against Durham as well.

However, there aren’t many consistent performances that can put Yorkshire in a winning position. They are struggling to score runs in the first innings and the likes of Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel need to step up and deliver.
