An aggressive strokeplay by the rampant New York Strikers batsmen derailed Bangla Tiger’s plans for the opening game. The margin of defeat was so huge that Tigers are languishing at the bottom of the table with their NRR reading -3.5.
They have a lot of catching up to do to be a force to be reckoned with in the tournament. But they’ll do well to first shake off the bad memories of their opener yesterday because Deccan Gladiators are going to be coming hard at them. Following the drubbing yesterday, they are going to have a fixture with the reigning champions, but Gladiators themselves are coming off a severe defeat in their second outing and will look to quickly make amends.
You’ve got to be in it and compete hard at all times to give yourselves the best chances of winning- that’s the nature of this league.

After eking out 2 more runs than their opening game and losing four fewer wickets against a team like Delhi Bulls, Gladiators would have fancied their chances in the mid innings. But Quinton De Kock, and the duo from calypso Johnson Charles and Rovman Powell caused carnage. And Gladiators lost the match by 9 wickets with 9 balls still to be bowled.
All the bowlers had a rough day on the park, with Englishman Luke Wood the lone man featuring in the wickets column. These things happen in T10 and the hallmark of a champion team is in knowing how to bounce back from the setback quickly.
Having won a couple of editions, Gladiators very well know how to put this minor setback behind and manoeuvre their way back into the tournament. The hammering they took pushed them into the lower half of the table, but if they play to their strengths against Tigers, they’ll reclaim one of the top spots and send a strong message out to the rest of the teams that they’ve got still their eyes on the prize.

To huff and puff your way across the 100-run mark only to see the opposition blow you away inside 8 overs is nothing but a proper hammering in T10 terms.
It was not all doom and gloom for Bangla Tigers as the scorecard may suggest.
They lost Aussie Chriss Lynn early but Jordan Cox and Kusal Mendis were particularly severe on the opposition bringing up 60 runs in just 4 overs. Cox went too far across for a flick and had his furniture disturbed while Kusal Mendis quickly followed him to the pavilion top edging a skier to deep midwicket. None of the batsmen who followed could get to double digits except Daniel Sams who had a reprieve earlier. On the bowling front, Bangla Tigers just went through the motions and looked clueless for the most part despite sending off opener Gurbaz in quick time.
Overall, they didn’t play to potential and were left scratching their heads when the opposition put them under the pump. A few players may be benched for their upcoming game and the batting order might change, but they’re going to have to put on a clinical display with the bat and the ball to compete well with the Gladiators and climb out of the big hole they got themselves into.

Tigers were done in by the bowling smarts of Strikers’ especially Karunaratne who kept mixing the balls up, banging it in the wicket, sending down slower balls, and not offering batsmen any pace whatsoever to work with. Tactics like these may pay huge dividends considering that this is the last game for the night and that they’ll be playing on a used surface.
Of the 5 completed matches, teams batting first won 3 times and teams chasing tasted victory twice. Both teams prefer setting a total with a number of big-strikers in their wings so it should be an interesting toss.
Gladiators have the wood over Tigers with the head-to-head screaming 4-1. And they’ll not want to let Bangla Tigers spring a surprise and get one up on them.
We are backing Deccan Gladiators as the winners of this contest.
