Dambulla Giants to win
Tournament: Lanka Premier League 2021 | Format: T20 | Venue: R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka | Toss: To Bat
Bet NowIt is the 2nd game in the Lanka Premier League 2021 and the Dambulla Giants would be up against the Kandy Warriors. The Giants had a good season last year and made it to the semis while the Kandy Warriors finished at the bottom of the points table. It will be the first game of the tournament for both teams and they would like to set off well.
The Kandy Warriors have gone in with a new group of players and a new captain and it would be interesting to see if these players can write a different script for the side this season after the horrid time they had last year. The Giants have retained most of the players from the last season and know each other’s game and this would be an advantage for them going into this game.
Dasun Shanaka continues as the skipper for the franchise which has changed its name from Dambulla Viikings. They had done well in the league stages last season and lost out in the semis. Shanaka would look to improve upon that performance this season. They have a good balance in the side and Shanaka would like to earn the first points of the season here.
The side would be hoping to see a good start from Niroshan Dickwella and Najibullah Zadran as both these players are good hitters of the ball and Zardan has done well in recent weeks in Abu Dhabi. In the middle order Sohaib Maqsood, Dilshan Munaweera, and Shanaka would need to set up partnerships. They have good finishers in the side with the likes of Kalana Perera, Tharindu Ratnayake, and Marchant de Lange to follow.
The side would be confident with its bowling attack as de Lange and Nuwan Pradeep brings in experience to the side and shall aim for a good start. Imran Tahir would be expected to work his magic in the middle overs for the side in this game and these conditions would offer him an advantage. Chamika Karunaratne, Shanaka and Tharindu Ratnayake add good bowling options for the side.

The side has a poor season last year in its early avatar as Kandy Tuskers. They won just two games and finished at the bottom of the points table. The new skipper Asela Gunaratne would want to put that poor show behind and start the season on a positive note. They have assembled a good team for this season and the skipper would want his players to play their natural game.
The new opening pair of Tom Banton and Rovman Powell would have to set the perfect platform for the side with a good partnership. In the middle order, they have Cameron Delport, Angelo Perera, and Gunaratne to steer the innings and add runs at a good pace. The likes of Milinda Siriwardana, Charith Asalanka, and Kamindu Mendis will look to free their arms towards the end of the innings.
The side would look for a good show with the new ball from Lahiru Kumara and Mohammad Irfan. They need to get early wickets for the side to win the game. Binura Fernando will look to make the best use of the slowness on the surface and also expect good support from the likes of Asalanka, Gunaratne, and Kamindu Mendis.

The skies over Colombo would be partly cloudy on December 6 but it isn’t likely to affect the game. We expect to see a flat surface where batsmen would be able to play their natural game. Big scores have been chased here and the side batting first would need a minimum of 180 runs on the board to feel safe.
R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo has been a high-scoring venue. The wicket is flat, and the fast outfield allows batsmen to score runs in boundaries. It is a tough wicket for the fast bowlers, and they must use their variations to succeed. Spinners have done well as the ball stops on the batsmen at times and turns a lot.
In the past, most teams have preferred to bat first winning the toss at this venue. The wicket allows easy run-scoring and big scores have been made here. The side winning the toss in this game would like to take advantage of this and opt to bat first in this game.
Kandy Warriors would be looking for a positive start to the season. They had started poorly last year and never recovered from that. Their new-look batting line-up would have to deliver in this game for the side to win. The Dambulla Giants have better balance in the side and a bowling attack that has lots of experience and this would put them slightly ahead of the Warriors in this game.
