The second match of the Momentum One Day Cup 2021 will kick-off at Senwes Park on 10th January 2021 between the four times & current champions Dolphins against two-time champions Knights. It will be the start of the campaign for the Knights while Dolphins will be playing their second match of the tournament within a gap of 16 hours. The most awaited List-A tournament finally started on 9th January after Cricket South Africa (CSA) proposed a 15 matches schedule under a bio-secure environment (BSE) at Senwes Park. The 2020 tournament was called-off after the pandemic hit the world and Dolphins were awarded the trophy based on the points.

The first game between the Dolphins and the Titans was easily won by the former. Thanks to the efforts from the middle order the Dolphins put a target of 273 on the board for the Titans. Chasing the target the Titans barely managed to score 196 runs for the loss of 8 wickets to handover a victory to the reigning champions by 76 runs. Senuran Muthusamy’s 70 runs by the bat and 2 wickets from the ball for 39 runs earned him a man of the match award.

Interestingly, both Dolphins and Knights started their campaign last season against each other. Then Dolphin’s captain Keshav Maharaj’s all-round efforts helped them a win against the Knights by 94 runs. Maharaj scored 43 with the bat to help the Dolphins reach a respectable 209 runs and then took 2 wickets with the ball for 19 runs to restrict the Titans on 115 runs. Therefore, the Knights will be looking to beat the Dolphins in order to seek revenge for the last time.

Dolphins Preview

Dolphins kicked-off their campaign earlier yesterday against the Titans by emerging victorious. Therefore, they will opt to go unchanged in the second game except for Phehlukwayo who was taken off after bowling 5.3 overs due to an injury. Marques Ackerman and keeper Grant Roelfofsen will open the batting for the Dolphins. Last year’s top scorer, Roelfosen scored 65 in 69 balls with the help of six boundaries and a six. Ackerman will look to evaluate his partner’s form to provide a solid start.

In the top order, Ruan de Swart and Khaya Zondo will accompany the national team player David Miller. Though the trio only scored 14 runs against the Titans, the Dolphins will be dependent on them to kick in their second game. The middle-order will be comprised of Andile Phehlukwayo, Senuran Muthusamy, and Robbie Frylinck. After losing 4 wickets for 79, it was the middle-order that came to the rescue for the Dolphins. The fifties from Phehlukwayo and Muthusamy & 30 runs from Frylinck were the attraction of the Dolphin’s innings in the first game. Under the absence of Phehlukwayo, Eathan Bosch will be added to the roaster.

The bowling department will be headed by Kerwin Mungroo and the captain Prenelan Subrayen with Ottniel Baartman. Though the captain didn’t take any wicket with the ball, he will be definitely looking for this game to show his worth.

Key Players:  Senuran Muthusamy, Grant Roelfofsen

Dolphins Predicted Playing XI:

Prenelan Subrayen (C), Grant Roelfofsen(WK), Marques Ackerman, Ruan de Swart,  Khaya Zondo, David Miller, Eathan Bosch, Senuran Muthusamy, Robbie Frylinck, Kerwin Mungroo, Ottniel Baartman

Knights Preview

After registering only one win in their first six games, the Knights stunned everyone by winning all three of their final games. Coach Alan Donald will be roaring to go to their opening game with the same confidence. Knights will trust their last season’s opening pair Andries Gous and Jacques Snyman to start their campaign. Gous who was the leading scorer for Knights will look forward to providing solid starts with his partner Snyman.

Farhaan Behardien will lead the top-order with Patrick Kruger and Reynard Van Tonder. Kruger who is waiting for a national call has the chance of his lifetime to show the selectors his importance in the top-order. Captain Pite van Biljon will team up with Ferisco Adams and Wandile Makwetu in the middle order.

Knights have the most sorted bowling department. Last season two of their players claimed the first spot of most wickets with 18 wickets. Mbulelo Budaza and Shaun Von Berg. Matthew Kleinveldt will also be added to the roaster to boost the all-rounder department.

The team that batted second has won all the games played here last season. Therefore, the team winning the toss should field first here.

Looking at the stats from last year, final meetings and current form, the Dolphins has the advantage to win the second game of the series. Though they will be fatigued after playing a game yesterday, the champions will be having an upper hand against the last season’s minnows - the Knights.

We predict Dolphins will defeat Knights.
