In the 2nd game of the CSA T20 Challenge 2019 Dolphins would take the Knights. Dolphins would be confident after their performance in the Momentum Cup where they marched all the way to the finals to lose against the Titans. The story has been quite the opposite for the Knights who had a poor run in the One Day competition and had too many issues with the form of their main players.

In the previous editions of the T20 league Dolphins and Knights have shared a close rivalry and none of the sides have been able to dominate the other. Given the form Knights are in at the moment it would be interesting to see how they start this competition.

Dolphins Preview

Khaya Zondo would be leading a team of confident players in the game. Though they lost out in the final of the Momentum Cup the players are looking in great form. The skipper would want his side to carry the same form into this T20 league and start with a confident win in the first game.

In Sarel Erwee and Vaughn van Jaarsveld the side has good openers who have done well in the recent weeks. The middle order also looks good with Khaya Zondo, Morne van Wyk, Kerwin Mungroo and Senuran Muthusamy. The presence of Andile Phehlukwayo in the lower order shall also add to the team’s strength. All in all the team seems to have good strength in its batting and they would like to carry their good form into the next game.

They have a good bowling attack in Eathan Bosch and Andile Phehlukwayo and they would be expected to give the side a good start. Kerwin Mungroo, Okuhle Cele and Prenelan Subrayen have had good performances in the last few weeks and would be looking to carry on with the same performance in the upcoming game.

Dolphins Predicted Playing XI:

Khaya Zondo (c), Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Sarel Erwee, Morne van Wyk (wk), Sibonelo Makhanya, Senuran Muthusamy, Eathan Bosch, Andile Phehlukwayo, Prenelan Subrayen, Kerwin Mungroo, Okuhle Cele.

Dolphins Actual Playing XI:

P Subrayen, Sibonelo Makhanya, C Chetty, Eathan Bosch, Lwandiswa Zuma, Keshav Maharaj, Sarel Erwee, Daryn Dupavillon, Marques Ackerman, Mv Wyk, Khaya Zondo

Knights Preview

Petrus van Biljon has a big challenge on his shoulders. His team had a poor run during the Momentum Cup where they walked from one defeat to another. He would hope a change of format brings about change of luck for his side.  The skipper would want his team to put the losses behind and focus on winning the first game of this new tournament.

Patrick Kruger and Andries Gous didn’t have the best form during Momentum Cup and would look to make amends. Rudi Second was their best batsman and would look to do well here too. The likes of Keegan Petersen, Petrus van Biljon along with the hard hitting Grant Mokoena makes them a good batting line-up going into this game.

Talking about their bowling Marchant de Langeb and Ottniel Baartman have been in good form in the last tournament. Eddie Leie and Ryan McLaren also did well in patches and they would look to keep the scores under check along with T20 specialist Tshepo Ntuli.

Knights Predicted Playing XI:

Patrick Kruger, Andries Gous (wk), Keegan Petersen, Petrus van Biljon (c), Rudi Second, Grant Mokoena, Ryan McLaren, Eddie Leie, Ottniel Baartman, Mbulelo Budaza, Tshepo Ntuli

Knights Actual Playing XI:

Grant Mokoena, RS Second, T Mnyaka, Eddie Leie, AR Swanepoel, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Corne Dry, AGS Gous, PJ van Biljon, Ryan McLaren, Patrick Kruger

Weather Conditions

The weather forecast for 6th April a Durban is cloudy with chances of rain. It has been raining for a while in the city and the pitch is likely to have gained some moisture where batting would be a challenge. A score of 160 runs assisted by good bowling should be enough on this surface.

Venue

Kingsmead, Durban has been a good ground for the fast bowlers. But in T20 cricket batsmen have also done well in this ground. Ball tends to come onto the bat nicely which makes stroke making easy. Fast bowlers get good bargain from this pitch in the early overs of the game.

Toss: To Bowl

Given the weather forecast and the chances of rain we may have a rain-curtailed game on our hands. In such a scenario the team batting second shall have the advantage of knowing the asking rate and the captain who wins the toss shall elect to bat first.

It is just the start to the tournament and a new format. This should make the sides stand on equal footing. But Knights have had a bad run of form in the recent one day tournament where Dolphins excelled with their top players delivering good performances. Most of the top players in the Knights squad looked out of form. Taking form and momentum into account Dolphins would definitely start as favorites in this game.
