The 3rd warm-up game of the ICC Cricket World Cup would see hosts England lock horns with defending champions Australia at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. The hosts have been tagged as the pre-tournament favorites and come here after a great series win against Pakistan. Australia strengthened by the return of David Warner and Steven Smith have also shown good form in the recent games.

This warm-up game would be a great opportunity for both sides to try out their respective strengths in the game. England has enjoyed an upper hand in the recent games against their archrivals and would want to hold on to their record. With both the teams eyeing the trophy they would be looking to gain momentum in this practice game for the rest of the tournament.

England Preview

Skipper Eoin Morgan will feel some heat going into this game as his side would kick-start their campaign in front of the home crowd. His side has been in good form in the last few months and the skipper would want to continue the same way. He would be aware of how Aussies have regained form in the last few months and wouldn’t be complacent against them. 

Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy make one of the most destructive opening pairs in the world and they would be looking to do well in the next game. The middle order for the side is equally strong with Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler in the side. They bat deep with the likes of Ben Stokes, Rashid and Curran in the side which makes them strong going into this game. 

Their bowling attack hasn’t done well in the recent games and this would be worrying for the side. Jofra Archer has impressed but the likes of Liam Plunkett, Stokes and Tom Curran having leaked runs in most of the recent games so far. Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali have done well and will look to repeat their performance in the next game.

Australia Preview

Aaron Finch’s side has been through a tough ride in ODIs in the last couple of years but the world champions would want to rise again and claim their spot at the top of the table. The return of Steven Smith and David Warner is a big boost to the side and they would be looking to capitalize on their batting strength going into this game. 

They have a strong batting line-up with David Warner and Finch at the top and they would be looking to give a perfect start to their side. Steven Smith, Usman Khwaja, and Glenn Maxwell make the middle order very strong for the side and with the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey in the squad they will count on their chances. 

Australian bowlers haven’t been in the best of form Mitchell Starc for one the hero of the last World Cup. Pat Cummins and Jason Behrendorff have shown good form in the last few series. With Nathan Lyon and Stoinis in the side, the team would think that they have a decent bowling attack to win this game.

Weather Conditions

Southampton’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy on May 25 and we might see the ball move around in the initial overs. Otherwise, the pitch would be a great one to bat on a put up a huge score on the board. 350+ score won’t be surprising on this wicket.

The Rose Bowl Southampton has seen several high scoring encounters in the recent past where batsmen have always been in business hitting through the line and putting up big scores. The bowlers have to be smart to get a good bargain at this venue.
