England will face Pakistan in the warmup match ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup 2022 at the Gabba, Brisbane on Monday.

For the Three Lions, this is the only warmup match ahead of the mega-event whereas the Men-in-Green are scheduled to play another match against Afghanistan at the same venue on Wednesday, October 19.

Despite having just one fixture as a warm-up before the fixture, England will feel confident about their preparations as they have recently taken part in the three-match T20I series against the home team in these conditions.

Pakistan will be coming in the warm-up fixture with high confidence after securing a win in the recently concluded T20I Tri-Series win in New Zealand.

England Preview

The English team management will be hoping to try their likely playing XI against the Green Caps to ensure that they have a settled lineup ahead of their first fixture.

The interesting thing will be whether star all-rounder Liam Livingstone will be able to play in the fixture as he has not played a T20I since July.

England are entering the contest as one of the two favourites alongside Australia to lift the title despite having a new captain in charge than the one who led the side in the previous edition.

The Three Lions are placed in Group 1 alongside the home team and reigning champions, last edition’s runners-up New Zealand, Afghanistan and two teams will join after the qualifying round.

Their first match of the competition will be against a Mohammad Nabi-led side in Perth on Saturday, October 22 whereas their last league fixture will be against a qualifying side on November 05 in Sydney.

England Predicted Playing XI:

Jos Buttler (c & wk), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, David Willey, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley

Pakistan Preview

The management will be hoping that the Men-in-Green will carry the momentum forward that they gathered in the tri-nation series after a rather disappointing outing against England in a seven-match series while playing at home where they finished second-best with the score of 4-3.

All eyes will be on Pakistan’s team management as it will be interesting to see whether they will try the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar Zaman, both of whom just recovered from different injuries.

The Green Caps are placed in Group 2 alongside arch-rivals India, Bangladesh, South Africa whereas two teams will join after the qualifying round.

Pakistan’s first match in the competition will be up against the Men-in-Blue on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground whereas their last league fixture will be against the Bengal Tigers in Adelaide on November 6.

Pakistan Predicted Playing XI:

Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Haider Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Khushdil Shah/Mohammad Hasnain.

Weather Conditions

Traditionally, the wicket at The Gabba is one of the quickest in Australia. The surface provides a lot of bounce and carry for the quick bowlers. The weather forecast for the game is going to be partly cloudly with humidity around 71%,

Venue Details

The Gabba in Brisbane is going to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup warm-up match between Pakistan and England.

A month ago, England beat Pakistan in a seven-match T20I series played in Pakistan.

Toss: To Bat

Both the sides will be looking to win the toss, bat first and post a competitive total on the board. The average first innings score at The Gabba is around 168 runs.

Both teams will be looking to use this match as an opportunity to give all the players a much-needed practice session before the actual competition begin.

On paper at least, especially after how England have played against Australia in the recently concluded series, there is no reason to suggest that they will start the contest as anything less than firm favourites.

The prediction is for Jos Buttler’s men to secure a win and take some more momentum in the mega-event.
