Defending champions England Women haven’t got it right yet as they take on India Women in the 15th game of the ICC Women's World Cup 2022. England Women come here after a loss against South Africa Women in their last game while the Indian team had an easy outing defeating West Indies Women by a big margin in their previous game. 

England Women would face an uphill challenge after the string of ordinary performances they have put up. A loss here could end all their hopes of making it into the semifinal of the tournament. They are however a good side, and it would be interesting to see if they pull off a turnaround and win this game.

Heather Knight would be upset with the form of her side. They haven’t been able to live up to their reputation losing all their three games. Their batting has been in poor shape, and it haunted them in the last game against South Africa where they went down by 3 wickets.  Their record against India Women has been good in recent years and Knight would like to use that confidence to bounce back. 

Tammy Beaumont has scored runs in the tournament and she must set a strong platform opening the batting with Danielle Wyatt. The middle-order has looked shaky Knight, Natalie Sciver, and Amy Ellen Jones need to deliver in this game. Sophia Dunkley and Katherine Brunt add good firepower to the batting, and they will need to score quick runs in the final stages of the game. 

Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole have done well with the new ball, and they need to deliver early blows against the Indians. The rest of the bowling attack has failed to show consistency and the side would like to see good spells from Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross, and Knight in this game.

Mithali Raj’s side comes into this game with a massive win against the West Indies. They set up a big total and defended it successfully to win the game by 155 runs. Raj would be aware of England’s weakness at the moment and look to capitalize on this opportunity in this game. A win here would put the side in a comfortable position in the points table and improve their chances of qualifying for the semifinal. 

Smriti Mandhana scored a hundred in the last game, and she would look to provide a good start with Yastika Bhatia. Raj strengthens the middle order with Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh. In Harmanpreet Kaur they have a good hitter of the ball, and the side would also hope to see runs from Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar who have already done in once in the tournament. 

Jhulan Goswami had a poor outing in the last game, and she will look to get early wickets sharing the new ball with Meghna Singh. Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Deepti Sharma have bowled well, and the side would look for good spells from them. Rana and Vastrakar bring in variety to this attack.

Mount Maunganui would have clear skies on March 16. The wicket would be good for batting, but fast bowlers would get assistance with the new ball. Big scores have been made here already and the side batting first shall need 260 runs on the board to feel safe.

Venue Details

Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui offers swing and seam movement to the fast bowlers. However, it is a great surface to bat on once the batters get their eyes set in on the surface. Spinners don’t find much assistance from this track as the ball doesn’t grip the surface and skids through.

Toss: To Bowl

We have seen some assistance for the bowlers early in the game. The wicket becomes good for batting towards the end as we had seen in the last game played here. The side winning the toss would look to make the best use of it and bowl first.
