This has been a T20 Blast season to forget for Essex and although there is no chance of them sneaking into the top four positions of the South Group across the final two games, they do come into this game in decent form.
But unfortunately for Essex, they are up against one of the form teams in the division in Hampshire who are on the verge of booking their place in the quarter finals.
It was late May when these teams met in Southampton and Hampshire came out on top by a whopping 106 runs!
Dewald Brevis was the star for Hampshire with 68 runs from 32 balls although captain James Vince was not far behind with 62 from 31. Opener Toby Albert also hit a half-century before Liam Dawson took 4/26 with the ball.
Hampshire dominated that game - can they do the same on Thursday in Essex?

Essex welcomed Sussex Sharks to Chelmsford on Friday and inflicted a fourth successive T20 Blast defeat on the team from the south coast with a six wicket victory.
On Thursday, it's another side from the south coast who provide the opposition in Chelmsford and Essex will be hoping that they can produce just as dominant a performance once again.
Last Friday's win was setup by a brilliant bowling display which saw five players pick up a wicket with Simon Harmer, Mohammad Amir, Sam Cook and Shane Snater all picking up 2+ dismissals.
With the bat, opener Michael Pepper comes into this game full of confidence after hitting 87 not out from 47 balls and the other two players in the top three, Paul Walter and Jordan Cox, are equally capable of single-handedly winning a T20 match!

When James Vince is on-song, there are very few other white ball batters in England capable of hitting such heights and the Hampshire captain was at his best in Hampshire's last game, hitting 98 not out from 49 balls as he led the successful chase of 168.
The skipper batted through the innings as his side won by six wickets with 16 balls remaining and he was well supported by Joe Weatherley who contributed 43 runs from 29 balls at number four.
With the ball, Hampshire also have a very strong balance with plenty of experience and a range of bowling styles.
James Fuller comes into this game after taking 3/16 and Chris Wood alongside Scott Currie both took two. Then there are the experienced heads of Liam Dawson and Benny Howell who make Hampshire's bowling a formidable unit.

According to the forecast, there will be cloud cover throughout the evening in Chelmsford. However, although there may be the odd drop of rain, there will also be high temperatures of 25 degrees.
Chelmsford is a tight ground where the spectators seem almost part of the outfield. As a result, there are always boundary hitting options. A par score is likely to be in the region of 190-200 on Thursday.
There could be some rain around at the toss and across the opening innings of the match. For that reason, we predict that both sides will want to bowl first on Thursday evening.
This should be an excellent contest as Essex are playing without the pressure of trying to qualify for the quarter finals whereas Hampshire are flying along near the top of the group. We are predicting a close game but expect Hampshire to come out on top.
We are backing Hampshire to win!
