Essex Eagles would be aiming to improve their position on the points table as they take on Middlesex at home in their next game of the Vitality T20 Blast 2022. The Eagles went down against Hampshire Hawks in the last game and shall look to strike for in this game. Middlesex also played poorly in their last game losing to Surrey

Middlesex has lost the last four games, and this is likely to affect the confidence in the camp. Their bowling attack has failed to put pressure on the opposition, and this is worrying. Essex is playing at home and has won both their games at this venue. It remains to be seen if Middlesex can end its losing spree with a good performance here.

Essex Preview

Simon Harmer’s side batted poorly against the Hampshire Hawks in the last game as they went down by 32 runs. They failed to build partnerships in the game which led to their loss. They must put this behind them and play well in this game. Middlesex is a tough opponent, and the side must come up with a good performance here.

Feroze Khushi and Adam Rossington will have to convert their starts which they failed to do so against Hampshire. In the middle order Michael-Kyle Pepper, Matthew Critchley, and Paul Walter must build partnerships for the side to be in a strong position. They would also like to see runs from the bats of Simon Harmer and Tom Westley in this game.

Samuel Cook and Aron Nijjar are key bowlers for the side, and they will need to deliver early breakthroughs in this game. Ben Allison looked good in the last game, and he will have to play an important role in the middle overs with Harmer. Shane Snater and Critchley have to do well in the supporting role as their performance would be crucial for the side’s fate.

Essex Predicted Playing XI:

Simon Harmer (c), Feroze Khushi, Adam Rossington (wk), Michael-Kyle Pepper, Matthew Critchley, Paul Walter, Tom Westley, Shane Snater, Aron Nijjar, Ben Allison, Samuel Cook

Middlesex Preview

After a good start that saw them winning their first three games, Stephen Eskinazi’s side has lost form. They have lost the last four games and went down by 20 runs against Surrey in their last game. The side lacks confidence now which was seen in their performance in the last game. Eskinazi would expect better performance from their bowlers as this has been a weakness for the team.

Stephen Eskinazi and Max Holden have scored runs this season and they shall have to set up a big opening wicket stand. Eoin Morgan is an experienced player, and he must do well at No. 3 and steer the innings with Joe Cracknell and John Simpson. The side has depth in its batting with Luke Hollman, Martin Andersson, and Chris Green to follow.

Tom Helm and Jason Behrendorff have to make good use of the early conditions after their poor show with the ball in the last game. Toby Roland-Jones and Green must do well in the middle overs as they leaked unnecessary runs. The side lacks bowling depth and it would need Andersson to deliver the goods in the role of a 5th bowler.

Middlesex Predicted Playing XI:

Stephen Eskinazi (c), Max Holden, Joe Cracknell, Eoin Morgan, John Simpson (wk), Luke Hollman, Martin Andersson, Chris Green, Toby Roland-Jones, Tom Helm, Jason Behrendorff

Weather Conditions

The skies would be overcast over Chelmsford on June 10. The conditions are expected to be challenging for the batsmen as the bowlers would get a lot of assistance from the surface. Any score of 160 runs or above would be a good score at this venue.

Venue Details

County Ground, Chelmsford is a small ground but there is a lot in there for the fast bowlers as the ball tends to move around on this track. Batsmen have to get used to the pace and bounce on this track. It is a challenging venue for the spinners as the shorter boundaries allow the batsmen to play strokes freely.

Toss: To Bowl

The early conditions at this venue are conducive to swing bowling and the wicket gets better as the game progresses. Setting up a score on this ground is never easy. The side that wins the toss here shall have no hesitation in opting to bowl first in the game.

Middlesex has its backs against the wall. They have lost four games in a row and must hit their way into form to stay in the reckoning for a place in the next round. Their bowlers would need to strike form for the side to win this game. Essex Eagles have also had their problems with consistency, but the side enjoys an excellent record at home, and this would make them favorites here.
