Essex enjoys a good record at this venue and has lost only once in the last nine games. They haven't lost against Somerset since 2019, and the players will look to draw inspiration from that record. Somerset has good players and comes here with a win. It will be interesting to see if they can defeat the hosts.

Essex Preview

It will be a very important game for Tom Westley's side. They started the season with a loss but haven't tasted victory since then. They drew their last game against Nottinghamshire after a poor show in the bat in the 1st innings. Westley would expect a good show from his players as they look to improve their position on the points table.  

Alastair Cook must bring his experience to play and set up a big partnership with Nick Browne at the top. In the middle order, the side will need good performances from Daniel Lawrence, Westley, and Matthew Critchley. They must use their batting depth and expect runs from Adam Rossington, Doug Bracewell, and Simon Harmer. 

Jamie Porter and Sam Cook must use the new ball well, as their opponents have a strong batting line-up. Shane Snater and Harmer are experienced bowlers and know the conditions well on this ground. Matthew Critchley and Doug Bracewell must do well in the supporting role to win this game.

Somerset Preview

Tom Abell's team registered its first win of the season in the last game. It was a dominating performance from the side as they defeated Middlesex by an innings and 13 runs. Abell will like his players to draw inspiration from that win and do well here. Their bowlers must be on the money, as Essex has a strong batting line-up.  

Tom Lammonby and Cameron Bancroft must set up a big partnership at the top, as they will face a strong bowling attack. Abell and George Bartlett did well in the last game and will look to add runs with Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the middle order. James Rew, Lewis Gregory, and Craig Overton make it a strong batting line-up.  

Matt Henry has enjoyed a good run this season, and he would like to strike early with Craig Overton. Peter Siddle and Jack Leach have a lot of experience and a crucial role in this game. Gregory will need to do well in the supporting role as the team lacks bowling options, unlike its opponents.

County Ground, Chelmsford, is small, but there is a lot for the fast bowlers as the ball tends to move around on this track. It is a challenging venue for the spinners as the shorter boundaries allow the batsmen to play strokes freely. Batsmen must get used to the pace and bounce on this track to score runs.
