It’s time for the Caribbean Premier League 2024 playoffs! Guyana Amazon Warriors will take on Saint Lucia Kings in Qualifier 1 in Providence Stadium on October 2. The two teams ended up in the top two positions in the standings, with Guyana taking the number one spot and Saint Lucia one place below them. Guyana defeated Saint Lucia in both of their clashes this season and will have the upper hand in this clash.
Guyana Amazon Warriors ended the league stage right at the top of the table with 14 points from 10 games and an impressive net run rate of 0.799. They won 7 matches and lost only 3.
Shimron Hetmyer has been the leader of Guyana’s batting unit, smashing 353 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 187. The left-handed batter has blasted four fifties this year.
The return of Rahmanullah Gurbaz has certainly boosted the batting unit. The aggressive Afghanistan opener has 205 runs across 6 innings this season at a strike rate of 172.
Guyana will also bank on Shai Hope’s solidity in the middle.
Among the bowlers, the standouts have been Gudakesh Motie and Imran Tahir, who have shared 31 wickets between them this season.
Moeen Ali and Dwaine Pretorius are also reliable options. They might not always take the wickets but will bowl some decent overs.
Key Players: Shimron Hetmyer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Gudakesh Motie

Like Guyana, Saint Lucia Kings too had 14 points from 10 matches. However, their net run was inferior to Guyana’s and hence they ended in the second spot at the end of the league stage.
For Saint Lucia, openers Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis have been sensational this year, both accumulating over 300 runs at very healthy strike rates. Charles tops the team’s batting charts with 366 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 152.50.
Unfortunately, the middle order hasn’t really come to the party this season. Tim Seifert has been their savior on many an occasion and has struck 236 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 165.
Among the bowlers, Noor Ahmad has been phenomenal, securing 18 wickets in 10 innings at an economy of 5.92. He can be their main weapon in the playoffs.
Other bowlers to keep an eye on is Alzarri Joseph (14 wickets in 10 innings at 8.40) and David Wiese (11 wickets in 8 innings at 8.20).
Key Players: Johnson Charles, Faf du Plessis, Noor Ahmad

The pitch at the Providence Stadium has been a batting beauty. There is some help for seamers at the start, after which they would have to rely on varying their speeds. Spinners will have a part to play in the middle overs. Overall, though, batters will dominate proceedings here.
The weather in Guyana will be slightly cloudy during the match. There is a chance of a couple of showers in the afternoon, but we should get a full game.
There have been three totals of over 200 posted at the Providence Stadium in this year’s CPL, with the highest being Guyana’s 219-8 against Barbados Royals. It remains to be seen what wicket they provide in Qualifier 1, but it’s likely to be one with plenty of runs. Both teams will be targeting a score of around 190-200 runs.
The last five matches played at the Providence Stadium in this year’s CPL have been won by the team batting first. Going by this trend, it’s expected the team winning the toss in this match will be looking to bat first as well.
Guyana triumphed over Saint Lucia in both of their encounters this season. This will give them confidence in Qualifier 1. They have a well-balanced team, with a very strong batting unit. Saint Lucia are highly dependent on their openers, and if they don’t provide them with a solid start, the middle-order might struggle. Noor Ahmed might be key for them here. Looking at the overall strength of both sides, though, we are backing Guyana to emerge victorious here.
Guyana Amazon Warriors are favorites to win Qualifier 1.
