The 13th game of the Lanka Premier League 2021 would be an interesting one. The Galle Gladiators would be up against the Colombo Stars in the game. The Gladiators suffered a loss against the Kandy Warriors in the last game owning to poor batting efforts. The Colombo Stars come here with a heartbreaking loss against the Dambulla Giants. 

The Colombo Stars have lost the last three games in a row and this would hurt their confidence. The side has to regain its strengths and win this game to keep hopes alive for a berth in the next round. They had defeated the Gladiators earlier and this would give them some positivity and make this game interesting.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa would be extremely upset to have lost the last game against the Kandy Warriors by 5 wickets. Their batsmen failed to occupy the crease putting up only 127 runs on the board. They had lost against the Colombo Stars earlier and Rajapaksa shall look to exploit the weakness that the Stars have shown in the last three games. 

Kusal Mendis has scored runs in most games and he would have to provide the side with a good start in the company of Danushka Gunathilaka. In the middle order, they would like to see runs from the bat of Ben Dunk, Mohammad Hafeez, and Rajapaksa in this game. They have good depth in their batting with Samit Patel, Lahiru Maudshanka, and Dhananjaya Lakshan in the team. 

The side would look for good spells with the new ball from Mohammad Amir and Dhananjaya Lakshan who did well in the last game. Patel has bowled well consistently, and he shall have an important role to play in this game. Noor Ahmed and Nuwan Thushara must make good use of the conditions and exploit the lack of form in the Stars’ camp.

Colombo Stars Preview

It was a heartbreak for Dhananjaya de Silva’s side in the last game against the Dambulla Giants. They came close to a win only to fall short by 1 run. A batting collapse at the top resulted in the loss for the team. They find themselves in deep trouble with three straight losses and need to win this game to move up on the points table. Having defeated the Gladiators earlier would give them some confidence.  

Openers Kusal Perara and Tom Banton have been in poor form and the side would need a better show from them here. Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal did well in the last game and they would have to steer the innings in the middle order along with Ashan Priyanjan. Sherfane Rutherford is a good hitter and he would need to deliver big blows down the order. 

Ravi Rampaul has impressed on his return to the side and shall look to do well alongside Seekkuge Prasanna who has enjoyed good form with the new ball. Dushmantha Chameera will need to show more consistency opening the bowling for the side. They would also like to see a good show from the likes of Naveen-ul-Haq and Jeffrey Vandersay as the Gladiators have good hitters of the ball.

It has been difficult for the bowlers so far and under the weather conditions, the side batting first would need 170 runs on the board.

R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo is a batsman’s paradise. The wicket is flat, and the fast outfield allows batsmen to score runs easily at this venue. Spinners have done well in the past as the wicket does offer good assistance to them. Fast bowlers generally struggle as there isn’t much for them on this wicket.
